The City of Houston seeks a qualified individual to serve as a GIS Analyst within the Planning & Development Department’s GIS Services Division. The successful candidate will perform primary GIS development and technical support functions as member of the Enterprise Geographic Information System and participate in GIS Team based projects including customer desktop and/or web-based application system to support City of Houston EGIS goals and objectives.

Produce maps, reports, modeling, and analysis using GIS and various database software.
Researches and evaluates source data using routine methods.
Consult with users and prospective users to develop understanding of GIS and identify applications.
Design and implement user-oriented databases, application programs, and documentation.
Research, develop, implement, and maintain data layers. Develop user-oriented programs to create and maintain data layers.
Consult with users and other Geographic Information Systems to facilitate data sharing and resolve data acquisition issues.
Make GIS presentations to users, prospective users, and the public.
Performs other duties or assists with special projects as needed.
This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 40 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required. There are occasional discomforts from exposure to significant levels of heat, cold moisture and air pollution.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Science, Planning, Geography, Computer Science or a closely related field.
No experience is required.
Substitution: Professional experience working with a comprehensive geographic information system may be substituted for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Valid Texas Driver’s License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2)
GISP certification is highly preferred
