Mike Everhart

MLA-MCRP 2021 Candidate

Specialization: Land Use and Environmental Planning

Hometown: Durham, NC

A resident of Chapel Hill for over a decade, Mike felt that the dual degree program offered through Carolina Planning and NC State would give him the skills needed to mitigate land use and environmental concerns in his home state. He was drawn to the combination of applied design and public policy, as well as the small cohort size and the strong connections within the program.

In the department, Mike is involved with the Placemakers Committee, which helps craft positive spaces within the department’s building. In the Chapel Hill community, Mike serves on the Chapel Hill Planning Commission. He also volunteers with a local friends-of-greenways group to adopt and improve greenways in Chapel Hill.

Outside of school and work commitments, Mike stays busy taking care of his bees, chickens, and dog. He loves to garden using permaculture practices and is also an avid woodworker. With any time leftover, Mike enjoys biking, cooking, eating great food with his wife Molly, family and friends, and generally just being outdoors.
