This fall Dr. Allie Thomas launched DCRP’s newest transportation planning course, International Transportation. The class introduces students to transportation planning work taking place around the globe, building off Dr. Thomas’ own expertise in sustainable planning in the US and China. Students are walked through transportation planning best practices in Latin America, Europe, Australia, and the African Continent and examine how these practices have been applied, successfully or otherwise, in the context of the US. The course is structured in a discussion-type format where both undergraduate and graduate students engage with one another through lectures, readings, and guest speaker presentations. In a final project that ties together the semester’s lessons, students become experts in a transportation planning case of their choosing, developing case studies to share with their classmates and assessing the best practices employed.
