Ecology and Land Use Planning focuses on understanding the functions of ecosystems, the land development activities that impact such functions, and the land use management tools that can be used to create strategies for mitigating and restoring environmental damage. While urban land use change and environmental planning have many implications for ecological systems, water is increasingly becoming a key link between ecological health and quality and urban development. This course is a semester-long introduction to watershed planning, where we examine the functions of, threats to, and strategies for protecting watersheds and wetlands.
