Our new regional organizers will work directly with both our co-directors and our local grassroots leaders to develop new multi-racial, multi-issue local political organizations as affiliates of the Carolina Federation. Regional organizers will support these affiliates in their organizational structure, core member recruitment and intensive leadership development training. Through this work, regional organizers will also contribute to the continued development of the Carolina Federation’s core leadership team and to the overall shared culture of our organization.

Self-Help has an exciting opportunity for an entrepreneurial Real Estate Development professional to build out this line of business that has just recently started for Self-Help in California. The Director of CA Real Estate Development will help envision and lead our community-based real estate development work in the state. Building capacity to expand community-based real estate development activity, in close coordination with our well-established branch network serving generally underserved populations in the state, is a strategic priority for Self-Help. The successful candidate will build and manage a small group of project management staff to identify, analyze, and execute real estate development projects. Projects may be in partnership/collaboration with Self-Help Federal Credit Union (SHFCU) branch development efforts (two currently underway.) Future projects could include additional SHFCU collaboration or independent commercial and mixed-use projects, neighborhood revitalization, affordable housing, and more.

The Policy, Planning and Research Bureau of the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) has an exciting opportunity in Barre, VT for an entry level (Planning Coordinator I) or experienced transportation planning professional (Planning Coordinator II) to work in a fast-paced environment that encourages innovation. You will work collaboratively with colleagues at VTrans, and other state, regional and municipal agencies to create and evaluate policy options and prepare planning documents that inform Agency investments, activities and legislation. You must have a Masters or Bachelor’s Degree in transportation planning, engineering or a related field, must demonstrate knowledge of transportation planning principles, practices and theory, and have the ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide variety of audiences.

The Friendly City by the Sea seeks applicants interested in serving as Town Planner for its historic waterfront community of 3000. The general statement of duties include administrative and technical planning duties in directing the activities of the Town’s planning, code enforcement, and certain inspections functions. Distinguishing Features; An employee in this class is responsible for the guided development of the community as well as coordinating with others the building permitting and inspections, and zoning code and other regulatory compliance, and other related programs for the Town. Work involves providing guidance for the orderly long-range growth and current development of the Town and enforcement of zoning and related codes, and includes representing the Town in intergovernmental activities such as working with infrastructure, environmental, and land use issues with other governmental officials. Work involves extensive public contact explaining potential and allowable land uses, and requires coordination with other departments, boards, commissions, and the public. Extensive judgment and initiative are required in conducting research projects, compiling reports and making presentations, and making recommendations for various programs and functions of the Town. Knowledge and skill in process design and facilitation to obtain citizen and developer input and develop consensus among conflicted parties is required. Considerable tact and courtesy must be exercised in the public contact functions. Work is performed under general administrative direction of the Town Manager and is evaluated through conferences, review of work, and overall acceptance of the programs by the Town’s citizens.

The Orange County Planning and Inspections Department has an immediate opening for a Planner II. Under the general supervision of the Planner III, an employee of this class is primarily responsible for long-range planning activities in the areas of transportation and land use, which includes conducting research and analysis and developing, amending, and implementing County plans and transportation improvement projects. Position is also responsible for providing staff support to County advisory boards and elected officials. Does related work as required.

The incumbent will be responsible for the tracking of and responding to urban land use planning and development proposals within the Mississippi NRRA corridor. The incumbent will also serve as the GIS specialist for the Park helping to maintain geodatabases and incorporate new GIS technologies into resource management decision-making.

Community Home Trust (CHT) seeks to strengthen the Orange County community with permanently affordable housing opportunities. Through its homeownership program, homes can accrue limited appreciation each year, preserving affordability for future generations while allowing current homeowners to build equity. While CHT retains title to each property, ownership is conveyed using a renewable 99-year ground lease. Community Home Trust sold its first home in June 2000. The incomes of most CHT homeowners ranges from 65% to 115% of AMI.

Dr. Douglas Jackson-Smith, Professor in the School of Environment and Natural Resources at the Ohio State University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to play a lead role in developing, implementing, and evaluating stakeholder engagement and participatory research projects with diverse farm and food system stakeholders. Position is open to scholars with experience and interests in in stakeholder engagement, on-farm research, and/or participatory modeling. This person will be expected to design, implement, and evaluate a series of stakeholder engagement and participatory research/modeling activities in connection with several transdisciplinary projects, including one major NSF-funded INFEWS grant supporting participatory processes to build scenarios and models to explore the implications of deglobalization on food/energy/water systems in the eastern Corn Belt. The position will be in the School of Environment and Natural Resources, and work will be based at Ohio State University’s Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster, OH. Successful candidates will be expected to conduct fieldwork, travel to meet with collaborators, participate and help organize participatory research workshops; communicate research results to scientific community via journal article publications, conference presentations and seminars; and advise and interact with graduate and undergraduate students.

The Town of Matthews has an exciting job opportunity available for a Senior Planner. Located in Mecklenburg County, Matthews is a growing Town of 32,000 located about 10 miles southeast of downtown Charlotte. The Senior Planner will be responsible for numerous planning activities in the department including management of the rezoning process, site plan review, long range planning, presentations to boards and committees and work on special projects as needed. Among the many planning related projects the Town is currently working on are an entertainment district adjacent to a regional sports complex, a downtown mobility study and station area planning for the proposed Silver Line light rail project.

The ideal candidate will possess more than five years of experience in the planning field and AICP certification. The hiring rate is negotiable up to $66,625 depending on experience. The Town offers a competitive benefits package including 401k and up to a 5% pay increase upon successful completion of a 6 month probationary period.

Successful candidates for this position should have strong experience in physical land use planning. We are looking for someone who also has experience in GIS to complement our team. A background in urban design, architecture, or landscape architecture, is also preferred, but not required.
