The Program Assistant will support several areas of activity across Lincoln’s programmatic work. It will range from ongoing support for: the Institute’s emerging climate change campaign; climate resilience and migration initiatives; and networks like the Legacy Cities Initiative and the Consortium for Scenario Planning to work on more discrete projects like Lincoln’s local housing affordability RFP and accompanying symposium. Projects will be assigned based on need and the Program Assistant’s experience and interests.

The Asia Foundation’s Environment unit team seeks a Junior Associate to work remotely for our San Francisco, CA office during the summer 2021 program period from June 28 – September 17, 2021.

The Junior Associate (JA) working with the Environment team will gain a deeper understanding of the most pressing environmental challenges facing in the region and contribute to TAF efforts to help address them at the national and regional levels. Specifically, the JA will work with the Environment team to strengthen the ability to communicate TAF’s unique approaches and expertise in addressing a broad range of environmental issues, through expanded program website content, online publications, development of outreach materials, and curation of TAF’s environmental project database used for developing capacity statements and other outreach materials. The JA will also support the team to identify emerging environmental trends and donor interest to propose new project ideas and interventions. Through guided instructions, the JA will deepen the knowledge of environmental programming and sharpen the skills in related research and writing.

JOB SUMMARY:

CSIS seeks a full-time Communications and Social Media Intern to provide administrative, strategic communications, and social media support to the Global Food Security Program. The intern will be an integral part of a small team and will often be required to complete tasks in short timeframes. This position prioritizes the program’s social media and promotional activities, with research and writing occasionally involved. Demonstrated interest in food security or related field required.

The intern will work closely with the Program Manager in managing communications around program publications and the program’s social media platforms. Of particular importance will be the intern’s role in enhancing the Program’s use and presence on relevant social media platforms. Tasks may also include prepping background information on food security experts and organizations ahead of meetings, media engagements, and events.

The Communications and Social Media Intern will also provide administrative support to the program, including supporting private and public events and assisting the coordination of scheduling and calendars. As CSIS focuses on providing interns with an educational experience that will serve them in their future career, interns will also be encouraged to pitch additional projects they would like to focus on.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Innovate GFSP’s use of social media and facilitate social media growth.
• Aid in the editing and publicizing of the GFSP podcast.
• Publicize the program’s publications and events on a regular basis using Twitter.
• monitor media for events and trends in food security on a daily basis.
• Maintain and update program data, including research materials, program mailing lists, and media.
• Provide general administrative support for program staff.
• Assist in the management of calendars and scheduling of high-level meetings.
• Assist in event planning, outreach, and staffing, as well as preparatory research for media and/or publications.
• Attend events and meetings and compile notes to share with program staff.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

• Familiarity and experience with social media platforms in professional settings. Podcast production and graphic design are a plus.
• Ability to work both independently and as a cohesive member of a small team.
• Comfort working in an exclusively virtual setting, including managing concurrent tasks with minimal supervision under tight deadlines and quick turnarounds.
• Strong professional communication and interpersonal skills.
• Impeccable attention to detail and coordination skills.
• Eligible to work in the United States
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree and/or one to two years of experience.
• At least a 3.3 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) from an accredited U.S. institution, or equivalent from a non-U.S. institution.
• Academic or professional experience in food security or related field is encouraged, but not required.

The program is looking to hire someone available to work from July to December 2021. This position will be remote. The intern is expected to work five days a week, Monday through Friday, for a total of 35 hours. This internship is paid. There is an opportunity to complete this internship for institutional credit.

The Workforce of the Future project of this program at Brookings is seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow  to support or conduct new research and inform policy at the intersection of industrial development, worker mobility, and urban growth in times of technological disruption. This project researches the growth and decline of industries and worker transitions at a local level to provide regional policymakers with practical tools and explore well-trodden paths to economic mobility.

This is a one-year termed appointment, with a possibility of extension for one additional year, depending on available funding.

The Post-Doctoral Fellow will add to a team conducting research and building data-driven solutions that help policymakers catalyze worker mobility and inclusive growth, drawing from a variety of fields: network science, industrial organization, labor and urban economics. The ideal candidate will have experience in data analytics, econometric techniques, applied research and an interest in engaging with policymakers. Preference will be given to candidates who can share a portfolio of static and interactive data visualizations and who have demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following areas:

  • Regional economic development – industrial specialization and diversification, industrial policy, urban growth, and regional development strategies.
  • Network analysis and mapping – network science methods and their application to social sciences, economics and labor markets; experience using networks to map and predict economic or social trends.
  • Labor Economics– particularly as it relates to urban policy; experience with wage, skill, occupation or employment datasets in the U.S. or abroad such as O*NET, OES, CPS, NLSY, LEFD, or other public databases

Research and Policy Development ( 80%)

  • Engage in advanced study and research on the future of the workforce, to understand and map the industrial development paths of U.S. cities, identify opportunities for worker mobility, and inform and asses various policies for inclusive regional development.
  • Disseminate research findings through the publication of independent or co-authored pieces in various publication outlets such as academic journals, policy reports and briefs, newspapers, and blogs.
  • Track and monitor current events, policy analysis papers, and government activities as they pertain to the research topic.
  • Participate and present research in relevant conferences, seminars, and meetings.
  • Provide strategic planning support, including drafting sections of project proposals, as needed.

Project Support and Strategic Engagement (20%)

  • Respond to requests from media, external stakeholders and regional partners for data analysis and research implications.
  • Identify and coordinate with local leaders to translate research findings into actionable policy recommendations and innovative workforce development interventions
  • Assist Senior Fellow with presentations, event preparation, and other research-related tasks as needed.
