About the Position
We are actively seeking a full-time GIS Mapping Coordinator to serve both our Chapel Hill and Denver offices. Successful candidates should have experience and interest in the following core job skills:

 GIS Database and File Management – The GIS Mapping Coordinator is responsible for working with client communities to receive, collect, transmit, organize, and inventory geospatial and related data. Experience preparing, maintaining, and using ESRI geodatabases is required.

Cartography – This core job skill involves development of professionally designed graphic representations of geospatial data, including maps, charts, and other graphic information displays to support the firm’s planning and zoning projects. A keen eye for design is required.

Land Use and Zoning Analysis – The Coordinator will prepare a wide array of geospatial analyses for planning and zoning projects, including analyses of community build-out, existing land use, future land use, zoning, natural assets, and preparation of land use scenarios, among others.

Drafting Technical Reports – This position requires technical writing to explain GIS methodologies, analyses, and findings, offered to a wide variety of audiences (community residents, local government staff, community stakeholders, and elected officials).

Development and Management of GIS-based Public Engagement Platforms – This core job skill involves building and managing mapping and data applications to support public engagement initiatives, including ESRI products such as StoryMaps, Dashboards, and Survey123.

Staying Current in Latest Cartographic and GIS-related Technologies – The coordinator researches new technologies and makes recommendations to the firm for software acquisition and implementation and advancement in the fields of GIS and cartography.

The Coordinator would also have the opportunity to provide other direct support for development of community plans and development codes as interested.

Compensation and Benefits
Compensation is based on your experience and performance. The salary range for the GIS Mapping Coordinator is generally $60,000-$75,000. Clarion Associates offers competitive benefits to all full-time employees, including full health insurance coverage (medical, dental, vision), 401K plan with a 3% annual employer contribution, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, ten days of PTO and eight personal days accrued annually to start (up to 20 days PTO based on tenure), eight paid holidays, coverage of AICP and other professional dues, and a variety of professional development opportunities. Healthy Places by Design (HPbD) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Fellow to support a project focused on rural community design and the built environment. Essential Responsibilities:

Research & Content Organization:

  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews on topics related to rural community design, active transportation, policy/systems change, and the built environment in rural communities.
  • Download, evaluate, and validate all sources for accuracy and credibility to ensure alignment with project standards.
  • Gather, organize, and synthesize information from peer-reviewed studies, reports, and relevant grey literature to support project objectives.
  • Maintain collected information in an accessible structure on HPbD’s SharePoint platform.

Content Development & Analysis:

  • Assist in developing reports and summaries based on research findings, with an emphasis on rural health and environmental strategies.
  • Review and contribute to writing summaries, recommendations, and other project content.
  • Collaborate on the thematic analysis of qualitative data to inform HPbD’s content and project deliverables.

Project Support:

  • Work with HPbD team members to ensure that research and findings align with the goals of the project.

The Challenge
We are hiring for an experienced Aviation Transportation Planner to join our Aviation team!

In this role, you will:

  • Manage the planning and environmental requirements for aviation projects across North Carolina, including projects related to developing infrastructure for NC’s public airport system and, increasingly, planning for and overseeing infrastructure development related to integrating advanced air mobility, sustainable fuels, and electrification.
  • Develop program guidance, standards and best practices.

  • Lead or assist with project delivery activities affecting planning and environmental program areas.
  • Lead or assist with public outreach efforts.

  • Support oversight of Aviation’s cooperative agreement with US Dept of Agriculture to provide wildlife hazard mitigation program training, assessment, and emergency response for the state’s public airports.

  • Lead or help with preparation of special studies conducted by NC affecting planning and environmental program areas.

What You Bring

  • Knowledge and understanding of best practices in planning and environmental program areas, including federal and state laws/regulations related to transportation planning and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

Duties

·Monitors and lobbies for the Town’s interest in the development of the State Transportation Improvement Plan.

Typical Qualifications
Extensive knowledge of transportation planning, thorough knowledge of the concepts, principles, techniques and legal aspects of land use planning; thorough knowledge of GIS software; thorough knowledge of town codes and plans; ability to analyze and systematically compile technical and statistical information; ability to make recommendations based on findings in studies, field observation and public contacts; ability to use computers and other technologies in the analysis and presentation of information; ability to prepare and deliver clear, concise and effective oral and written presentations to the general public, appointed boards and elected officials; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local, regional, and state officials, the general public, employees, developers, and consultants; ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision; ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates; ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects; ability to be a problem solver; ability to work effectively as part of a team.

The Challenge: We are looking for a Transportation Planner to join our Integrated Mobility team.

In this role, you will

  • Provide technical assistance to multimodal transportation, planning, assistance to local/regional governments.
  • Coordinate with Regional Planning Organizations (RPOs), Municipal Planning Organizations (MPOs), and public transportation systems within your geographic area that includes a 25-county region of urban and rural locales.
  • Regularly coordinate with MPOs, RPOs, and local transportation groups.
  • Lead planning assistance.
  • Provide programmatic guidance.
  • Coordinate and implement activities related to federal and state planning programs.
  • Administer multimodal/bicycle/pedestrian plans, management and conduct planning projects for local governments and transportation systems.
  • Assist with technical research projects.
  • Create planning best practices, quarterly report reviews and tracking.
  • Understand federal and state program areas
  • Lead research, policy, and related projects.
  • Research state/federal laws and policies regarding multimodal, bicycle, pedestrian and transit travel.

  • Deliver public presentations about IMD’s work.

What You Bring

  • Deep knowledge of multimodal, bicycle, pedestrian, and transit planning principles, techniques, and procedures and their interrelationships.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of Federal & State laws, guidelines, and funding programs related to multimodal, bicycle, pedestrian, and public transportation infrastructure and systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to concurrently manage multiple planning and research projects and studies.
