Description
The Comprehensive Planning Intern works in the City of Raleigh Planning Department. The Intern is a temporary hourly employee of the City of Raleigh. This is a term position without benefits.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Comprehensive Planning Intern will work on special projects to support the public engagement and research work of the division, which may include:
Advancing the development of missing middle housing supportive policy, supporting implementation of the city’s BRT system, supporting the work of ongoing area plans (Dix Edge Area Study, Southeast Area Study, Wakefield Area Study), supporting the department’s racial equity update of the 2030 Comprehensive Plan.
Completing a biennial update of citywide land capacity analysis and associated population projections; including analyzing and comparing density of approved residential units, zoning entitlement, and FLUM recommendations. The output of the study would compare the FLUM recommended density as it relates to potential residential units and approved residential units.
Using data from EPA, NC DEQ, and City of Raleigh to create a complete inventory, including GIS data, of brownfields and environmental justice analysis; conducting associated research on incentive programs for remediation/redevelopment.
The intern experience includes a staff mentor and broad exposure to a wide range of public planning-related processes, including governing body, board/commission, and internal departmental meetings.
HIRING RANGE: $15.00 per hour
