Cumberland County is currently hiring an Executive Director for the Fayetteville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). This would be an excellent opportunity for an up-and-coming transportation planning individual or a seasoned transportation person looking to make a move.

The Executive Director’s position serves as the direct supervisor of the Fayetteville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (FAMPO) program and is independently responsible for the recruitment, hiring, training, performance management, and progressive discipline of all assigned positions.  The FAMPO Executive Director works independently under the guidance of the Planning & Inspections Director to serve as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) point of contact with the US Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, Federal Transit Administration, North Carolina Department of Transportation and other Federal, State and Local agencies.

 

Examples of Duties

  • Coordinates all federal and state funds for transportation within the region
  • Ensures that the Metropolitan Planning Organization Committees are kept fully informed on the condition of the agency and about any trends, events or emerging issues of significance to the agency’s success
  • Ensures senior management,  elected and appointed officials are notified of events and activities
  • Serves as the chief staff person who reports to the MPO governing board Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and is responsible for interacting with the governing board and federal agencies
  • Responsible for the MPO’s operation and federally required planning products
  • Serves as the main point of contact in the official Federal Highway Administration database of MPOs
  • Manages the Community Transportation Program (CPT) staff

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration, engineering or a related field and eight (8) years of progressively responsible transportation planning experience, three (3) of which include direct supervision of staff or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Management Preference:
AICP Certification is preferred
