Mid-Carolina Regional Council seeks a highly motivated, team oriented professional to join the Mid-Carolina Team as a Planner I in the Council’s Local Government Services Department. This position offers a unique environment for individuals to develop and expand upon their professional skills in various areas of Planning to serve member governments. The Planner I position will assist member governments in land use planning, zoning and subdivision administration, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), short and long-range planning projects, grant administration, and more.

With offices in Fayetteville, Mid-Carolina Regional Council is a voluntary coalition of local governments and functions as a multi-county planning, development, and human services organization. The Council reaches across county and municipal borders to provide technical assistance to our local governments and to administer programs that benefit our region’s citizens. The Council’s mission is to provide creative regional solutions to relevant and emerging issues in Cumberland, Harnett, and Sampson Counties, North Carolina while providing a standard of excellence in the delivery of federal, state, and regional services for our communities.

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Public Administration, Geography or a comparable field, have a working knowledge of NC planning legislation, understand governmental procedures, have the ability to deploy GIS resources, be experienced with project management, and hold the ability to effectively interact with elected officials, appointed officials, the Council’s strategic partners, and the region’s citizens. All candidates with a combination of education and experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively perform as the Planner I are encouraged to apply and will be considered. Preference will be given to those with 1-2 years of local government experience and certification as a Certified Zoning Official (CZO), or the ability to obtain certification within 1 year of employment.

Mid-Carolina Regional Council offers a hybrid and flexible work schedule. Salary will be competitive and based on experience, with a hiring range of $48,151 – $60,000 annually. An excellent benefit package will be provided.
