GIS Analyst

The position would be working among the Epidemiology Unit of the Bureau of Disease Control of CDPH, one of our most advanced teams. In the past year, we’ve responded to events like the Mpox epidemic and the Ugandan Ebola outbreak, done some great work analyzing and correcting for COVID inequities, and made big strides on much-needed data modernization, to name a few of our efforts. One of our latest projects is the development of an automated cluster detection + disease surveillance system, which will use advanced algorithms to scan for aberrant outbreaks across a wide range of diseases and collate near-real-time data into auto-generated reports and visualizations to be used by epidemiologists and medical directors. The GIS Analyst position supports all of these efforts, and has ample opportunity to design and lead their own advanced spatial analyses or other projects to help modernize the field and further equitable health outcomes across all of Chicago. It’s a position that allows for a surprising amount of ambition and skill (everything from planning to programming to analysis to design), and would get to work with a team focused on innovation and revolutionizing urban public health systems, while also directly advancing public good.
