After identifying a faculty member whose research interests align with the desired independent study topic, the student will work with that faculty member to create a course plan. Students are required to register for independent study credits within the first week of classes for the semester. To register, students must complete the Independent Study Learning Contract, attach a syllabus, reading list, assessments, and any other supporting documentation to Student Services. Once the Department Chair has approved of the course, Student Services will contact the student to register for the independent study credits (PLAN 896). Students cannot register for independent study credits after the first week of the semester. If students want to take an independent study course, they must plan ahead to get all the approvals before the first week of the semester.
