Plan for All – Durham Council Member Javiera Caballero

Plan for All student group welcomes Durham Council member Javiera Caballero, the first Latina to serve on Durham City  Council.

Javiera Caballero came to the United States as a child from Chile. She grew up mostly in the Southeast and attended Appalachian State University. She is a former Montessori educator with classroom teaching experience ranging from pre-K through middle school. Javiera has worked at the community level organizing, fundraising and running a cooperative bakery and has also organized extensively for public education. Javiera is currently a program coordinator for the education consulting firm, Alma Advisory Group, based in Chicago, IL. In January 2018, her commitment to community and social justice moved her into a new role when appointed as the first Latina member of the Durham City Council.

Plan for All works on issues of equity, inclusivity, diversity, and social justice by sponsoring events that connect issues of race, class, gender, and sexuality to planning and make space for conversations around these issues.
