Development and Environmental Review Specialist

The Town of Lake Lure is seeking qualified applicants for a Development and Environmental Review Specialist. This position performs professional, administrative, and code enforcement. The work includes responding to public inquires, reviewing permitting, and enforcing Town Ordinances.  The ideal candidate will be able to work independently with minimum supervision. Independent judgement and initiative must be exercised in making determinations for land development, environmental regulations, and other requirements and provisions of the Code of Ordinances. Considerable tact is required when assisting contractors, engineers, architects, property owners and the general public with zoning, nuisance, lake structures, floodplain, erosion control, tree protection, and other enforcement related matters. Candidate must be proficient in detailed report writing and will serve as staff support to the Board of Adjustment/Lake Structures Appeals Board.

Extensive knowledge of planning and development, policies, and legal requirements related to NC General Statutes are preferred.  In addition, thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, regulations, zoning, land use, and other ordinances and codes, of the principles and practices of land use planning. Must be skilled in the use of standard office equipment including a personal computer and knowledge of software packages such as (Microsoft office Professional, ARC/GIS).

Employment requirements include graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Public Administration, or other relevant field of study and a valid NC Driver’s License.  Two years of professional experience in administration and enforcement of local government ordinances and regulations strongly preferred. CZO Certification preferred. This position is non-exempt, salary range is $42,623 to $63,934.
