GIS Geospatial Information Specialist

VHB’s growing Raleigh office is seeking a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist to join our team in fall 2020. Position is full-time. The qualified candidate will contribute across multiple project teams and provide a range of services relating to GIS, transportation, safety analysis, planning, and environmental projects.

Responsibilities Would Include

• Review and synthesize planning documents
• Synthesize, manage, analyze, and visualize various data sets
• GIS data collection and mapping
• Geodatabase management
• Report writing, editorial review, and research support

Skills And Abilities

• Strong skillset of written and oral communication, critical thinking, and time management
• Ability to work collaboratively, as well as independently with guidance
• Background experience working with ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap), ArcGIS Pro, and cartographic production preferred
• Working knowledge of Shapefile (.shp) and File GeoDatabase (.gdb) file formats
• Demonstrated experience creating and refining high quality maps and data products, with an accompanying portfolio highlighting previous work
• Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, especially experience with Excel
• Working knowledge of Python (ArcPy), SQL, VBA, or similar programming language is preferred, but not required
• Experience with ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Server, AutoCAD, or Adobe InDesign is preferred, but not required

Qualifications

• 0-2 years of GIS/Transportation experience
• Recently completed a B.S. degree in the fields of geography, cartography, planning, engineering, computer science, transportation, or a related field
• Experience with Esri ArcGIS Desktop (version 10.3 or above) and ArcGIS Pro (version 2.5 or above) software
• Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Certificate is preferred, but not required
