Historic Preservation Planner

Perform advanced professional planning, research, and analysis to ensure the orderly economic growth and preservation of the City’s historical district. Performs planning work that provides coordinated guidance and regulation of the growth, development, and preservation of the City’s historic district; provides staffing support to the Historic Preservation Commission and the Washington Historic Development Association (WHDA). Work involves performing professional planner responsibilities in the formation, installation, modification, and improvement of the City’s comprehensive plan. Duties include consulting with architects, developers, contractors, property owners, and the general public. Assists with budget preparation. Work requires considerable knowledge of planning and local ordinances, historic guidelines and strong public contact skills. Work involves providing technical guidance with considerable public contact on issues requiring judgment, firmness, and tact.
