Description
Detroit Future City is searching for a Neighborhood Climate Resiliency Specialist through the Michigan Healthy Climate (MHC) Corps!
The member will support DFC with building capacity within our strategies for building thriving, resilient neighborhoods in Detroit, especially around sustainable land use and also around connecting residents, small businesses, and other community institutions to resources that reduce energy burden. The member will provide capacity to a collaborative project, the McDougall Hunt Climate Resiliency Initiative. Additionally, the member will help us stay connected to federal and state resources available to support our climate efforts, and participate in fellowship building and professional development training to sharpen their skills for the long haul.
Specific work activities for the MHC member at DFC will include:
- Support with community engagement activities, developing workshops, and tours to develop a community-engaged land use plan focused on building climate resiliency.
- Research the costs and funding opportunities associated with a range of sustainable interventions may include urban prairie/meadow establishment and maintenance, tree/forest planting, solar energy production, and stormwater management.
- Use research and graphics skills to support the refinement of a toolkit to support community decision-making around using land for resiliency, and also to build funding and partnership support to implement these projects.
- Learn about current green space development through hands-on work days with community partners, and supporting the refinement of maintenance plans and their implementation.
