Planner

The Town of Butner, North Carolina, has an excellent career opportunity for a motivated individual wishing to fill a Planning position within the Town’s Planning and Recreation Department. Butner is an extraordinary community with a small-town feel and big-city convenience located minutes from North Carolina’s Research Triangle.

The Planner position utilizes specialized planning techniques to provide coordinated guidance and regulation of the growth and development of the Town. Work involves conducting plan review, zoning compliance, assisting citizens and developers with various issues; conducting research for land use, zoning, annexation or other issues; and providing staff assistance to advisory boards and the public for Planning and Recreation efforts. Work involves providing technical guidance to department staff, and considerable public contact often in sensitive or emotional issues requiring judgment, firmness, and tact.

Position will involve written and oral communication to various audiences including Town Council, boards, commissions and the public. This position reports directly to the Planning and Recreation Director and will work both independently and in a team environment across multiple departments with limited daily direction. The successful candidate will collaborate in a fast-paced, evolving environment and must be able to adapt to change through continuous learning while empowering others through shared knowledge.

Qualifications: The Planner position requires a bachelor’s degree in urban planning, landscape architecture or urban design, public policy, or related area of study.

Hiring Range: $46,000 – $55,000
