Planner I

The Town of Forest City (population 7,400), is one of the fastest growing small towns located in the foothills of Western North Carolina, centrally located just 1-hour west of Charlotte, NC and 1-hour east of Asheville, NC and with only a 15 minute drive to the Tryon International Equestrian Center.  The Town is seeking a motivated well qualified applicant to fill the position of Planner I.  The Town has seen growth with many commercial projects, including the Face Book Data Center located within the City limits. Our downtown has experienced revitalization with new restaurants and apartments, construction of a new amphitheater and a 13-mile rails to trail corridor.

The position includes responsibilities such as site plan reviews to assure that regulations are met, approval of permits, review of subdivisions plats and maps and research of property data. Also, being responsible for enforcing residential, commercial, land use, watershed, zoning and other ordinances; assist customers with interpretation of land use and zoning regulations; prepare information and make presentations to the Board of Planning and Adjustment; maintain updates of rezoning information in the Smart Gov system.  Advise property owners and tenants of violations and issue fines when necessary.

Applicant must be a graduate from a college with a degree in planning or related fields.  A minimum of one-year experience as a planner is preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Knowledge of the GIS system and customer relation skills are preferred.  Salary range for this position is 37,797 to 56,696.  Successful applicant must pass drug test and criminal background check prior to employment.
