PLANNING DIRECTOR

Town of Woodfin (population approx. 6,700), a growing town adjacent to Asheville, NC, seeks an experienced planning professional to coordinate its overall land use and development programs for both current and long-range planning activities.

The education and work experience of an ideal candidate will assist the Town in the following ways:

• Preserve those qualities that are critical to the Town’s identity
• Solicit public input through a comprehensive land use planning process that informs a vision for the next 10-20 years
• Revisit and revise planning ordinances/codes to align with that vision
• Apply modern planning theory and strategies that balance the interests of the Town Board, the public, and the development community during a period of dynamic growth

The successful candidate will perform or oversee the technical plan review process; regulatory compliance and zoning code enforcement; issuance of permits; maintenance of Town permitting, compliance and mapping data; and policy recommendations in the area of planning and development.

The planning director supervises one Planner position and reports directly to the Town Administrator.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with 3 years community planning or comparable work is required, though consideration may be given for an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference is given to candidates having certifications in planning, floodplain administration or zoning.

Starting salary range is $70,000-80,000, DOE, plus benefits.
