As part of SRI’s Center for Innovation Strategy and Policy (CISP), the Research Analyst will contribute to innovation policy research, analysis, strategic planning, and evaluations for a diverse range of clients. CISP helps organizations, regions, and countries achieve long-term economic and social impact through effective investments in science, technology, and innovation. Based in Arlington, VA, the Center is staffed with experienced professionals who conduct research, analysis, program evaluation, and strategic planning for private and public-sector clients around the world.

Our team works with our partners and clients in the following areas:

  • Innovation Ecosystem and Workforce Development
  • Innovation Strategy
  • Innovation Training
  • Complex Program Evaluation
  • Science and Technology Program Support
  • Advanced Analytics in R&D Analysis

A Research Analyst will work across all these areas and will:

  • Work on multiple simultaneous projects under the direction of senior staff.
  • Apply a variety of methods to analyze complex issues and to generate findings and recommendations in collaboration with senior staff.
  • Produce pieces of well-written high-quality reports and presentations for clients in collaboration with team members.
  • Occasionally travel domestically and internationally (when conditions permit).

Qualifications:

  • 1-5 years of work experience and strong understanding and working knowledge of issues related to science, engineering, competitiveness, innovation, technology development, program evaluation and/or economic development, particularly at the state or region level.
  • Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in public policy or other policy-oriented field in the social sciences with a background in science, engineering, economics, or statistics.
  • Research experience involving qualitative and quantitative methodologies/statistics or other experience requiring strong analytic and statistical skills.
  • Must be organized, attentive to detail, have the ability to prioritize tasks and take initiative.
  • Must possess good people skills, a desire to learn, and the ability to communicate clearly, including strong writing skills.
  • Knowledge of software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required, knowledge of a programming language such as R desirable.
