The Town of Clayton, North Carolina, has an excellent career opportunity for a motivated individual wishing to fill a senior level Planning position within the Town’s Planning Department. The Senior Planner position utilizes advanced-level planning work on a variety of projects related to current and long-range planning efforts for the Town and assists the Planning Director with providing coordinated guidance and regulation for the growth and development of the Town. Work involves responsibility in plan reviews and coordinating activities during the planning process to facilitate completion of projects. Supervision may be exercised over technical personnel and subordinate Planners including the review of work products, analysis of work procedures, and assisting with the resolution of difficult and unusual issues. Work involves providing technical guidance to department staff, and considerable public contact often in sensitive or emotional issues requiring judgment, firmness, and tact. Position will involve written and oral communication to various audiences including Town Council, boards, commissions and the public. This position will work both independently and in a team environment across multiple departments with limited daily direction. The successful candidate will collaborate in a fast-paced, evolving environment and must be able to adapt to change through continuous learning while empowering others through shared knowledge.

Qualifications: Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Urban or Regional Planning, Landscape Architecture, Geography or closely related field. Minimum of six years experience in local government planning. AICP certification preferred.
