DESCRIPTION: The Piedmont Triad Regional Council (PTRC) seeks an independent operator for the position of Water Resources Planner. The PTRC is the lead regional organization for the 12 counties of the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina. Primary duties include providing services to member governments in the area of water quality and watershed planning on specific grant funded projects, as well as assisting in the implementation of stormwater education. Additional duties may include work on other environmental initiatives including air quality and supporting staff on long-range land development plans; transportation, pedestrian, and bicycle plans; and greenway and open space preservation plans. Employee will be responsible for collecting, maintaining, and providing information on planning projects for member governments, governmental agencies and the general public. Individual may provide technical assistance with grant writing and project management. Employee will occasionally work with an intern and/or volunteer to carry out these services and will be required to work in the field, on-site some days.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in planning or a related field with minimum of 5 years’ experience in planning, environmental science, or related field. Candidates can distinguish themselves with a Master’s or AICP certification. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Individual must have a general knowledge of local and regional planning principles and practices, along with intermediate knowledge of ArcGIS systems and software including basic data processing using Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint). Successful candidate will possess the ability to work independently; review information for accuracy and consistency; interpret regulations; determine when to seek guidance from superiors; and possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Position requires superb verbal and written communication skills to interact with a variety of individuals including co-workers, local government staff, granting agencies, general public, and elected officials. Successful candidate must pass organization’s pre-employment drug screen and organization’s background screening process. Valid NC driver’s license required. Travel throughout 12-county region is required to carry out program duties. Other travel may be required on occasion.
