Zoning Technician/Code Enforcement Officer – Development & Design Services Department:
The City of Morganton is seeking a team-oriented, organized, self-motivated individual to help keep Morganton beautiful!
This position conducts field inspections to uncover potential violations of City Codes and ordinances and investigates violations and citizen complaints. It involves working with citizens and businesses to ensure compliance and adherence to codes and ordinances that serve to keep Morganton safe and ascetically pleasing.
This position requires exercising appropriate judgement in prioritizing calls, investigating issues, and resolving problems. The accurate documentation and retention of complaints, investigations and actions are essential. Additional duties include issuing permits, answering questions, and providing assistance to citizens, builders and architects. Ability to become thoroughly knowledgeable of technical ordinances, codes and regulations pertaining to land use, zoning, subdivision, site design, nuisance and minimum code areas is required.
Work requires, but is not limited to, climbing, balancing, kneeling, stooping, crawling, and lifting of 20 pounds; good oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work inside an office as well as outdoors and the various environmental conditions. An Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Urban Planning, Horticulture, Landscape Architecture or related field and one to four years of experience in the code enforcement or related field and possession of a valid, NC Driver’s License is required with a good driving record. The successful candidate will possess NC Zoning Official Certification or have the ability to attain the certification within two years.
Salary range is $36,938 – $55,407; starting salary will depend on experience.
