Dr. Ma’s research interests focus on the interaction of urban land use and human behavior towards sustainability and equity prospects, specifically, the urbanization process and its environmental & social impact using multi-source urban big data and thick data.
She received a Ph.D. in Human Geography from Peking University, China, where she started individual-based space-time research on environmental exposure and neighborhood integration. She is the PI of a National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) grant entitled” research of urban spatial justice from the perspective of space-time behavior and mobility”. Her current work focus on the urban redevelopment policy and its impact on land use and environment, as well as equity issues.
