Position Purpose
This position will be responsible for producing analyses on a variety of transportation topics, contributing to Local Technical Assistance planning efforts, making committee presentations, and developing policy recommendations. In the near term, the position will be responsible for staffing a CMAP task force on traffic safety and conducting supporting research, but over the longer term the position will help to shape other aspects of CMAP’s planning, policy, and programming agenda. Work in this area will be expected to connect to CMAP’s policies and research on transportation, community development, environment, regional economy, and other topics. The person in this position will also be expected to contribute to analysis for local plans as well as investment decisions in transit, highway, and non-motorized transportation facilities. Finally, work will be expected to clarify the link between the investments in the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and safety outcomes. Working collaboratively with metropolitan planning organization (MPO) member agencies and other CMAP stakeholders and helping forge consensus around transportation priorities are key aspects of this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to stakeholder processes to develop planning and policy recommendations.
  • Contribute to transportation elements of Local Technical Assistance plans.
  • Conduct literature reviews, best practices research, quantitative analysis, and stakeholder interviews to prepare reports, policy updates, memos and other material to implement and expand on the recommendations of ON TO 2050.
  • Make presentations to CMAP committees and interact directly with stakeholders, including transportation professionals and elected officials.
  • Represent CMAP on task forces, project studies, and at partner organization meetings.
  • Help carry out quantitative analyses of potential transportation strategies and evaluate candidate transportation projects.

Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree in Public Policy, Planning, Public Administration, or a related field is required; Master’s strongly preferred. A minimum of three years of relevant prior work experience in a policy, planning, or analytical role is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, with adaptability to other software. Demonstrated skills with databases, spreadsheets, and Arc/GIS geographic information systems.
