Responsibilities :

EDF offers internships and fellowships for students and recent graduates in a variety of programs and departments throughout the organization. The ultimate goal of our internship and fellowship program is to provide high-quality experiences (including relevant projects and opportunities for networking) that form the foundation for any individual who is serious about pursuing an environmental career.

Program/Department Overview

Climate Corps (www.edfclimatecorps.org) is a network of professionals united to advance climate solutions. This network is grounded in an innovative summer fellowship program, launched in 2008, which embeds trained graduate students in companies, cities, and universities to accelerate and advance energy and climate goals. With a network of over 2,300 professionals, Climate Corps seeks to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon energy system by inspiring and empowering leaders.

Overall Function

Working with the Climate Corps recruitment team and DEIJ Working Group, the intern will play a key role in advancing Climate Corps’ commitment to improve upon diversity, equity, inclusion and justice across all areas of our program. The intern will help assess and update our application screening process, compile resources on topics such as environmental justice and energy equity, contribute to the development of an equity assessment tool, and support DEIJ related fellowship summer events.

Key Responsibilities

Tasks will include but are not limited to:

Assess the current fellowship qualifications and application screening criteria, using data from the 2020 application cycle and best practices from similar programs, to determine if there are changes that can be made to make the process more equitable for future fellowship cycles;
Compile resources for fellows and staff on environmental justice, energy equity and the intersection of race and climate change/sustainability;
Contribute to the development of an equity assessment tool for future fellowship cycles;
Support DEIJ related fellowship events occurring during the summer, such as book clubs, panels workshops or discussions;
Research best practices and new areas of opportunity for DEI within the Climate Corps program;
Serve as an active participant in the Climate Corps DEIJ Working Group.

Qualifications

Enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate degree program
Interest in contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts
Understands multiple cultural frameworks, values and norms
Passion for environmental issues
Ability to analyze data, organize information, and present findings in a thoughtful manner
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines
Ability to work in a team setting and have the ability to work independently when projects are due
Demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills

Compensation

This internship would involve either compensation for work paid at a rate competitive with leading non-profits or academic credit. Students are encouraged to seek academic credit or funding through their college/university and EDF will ensure that any and all paperwork needed to secure academic credit is completed.
