Description
Triangle Land Conservancy (TLC) is an accredited land trust serving a 6-county area in the Triangle region of North Carolina. TLC strives to create a healthier and more vibrant region by safeguarding clean water, protecting natural habitats, supporting local farms and food and connecting people with nature through land protection and stewardship, catalyzing community action, and collaboration.
TLC’s Stewardship Department seeks a graduate-level geospatial intern for 2022. This position would contribute to a conservation planning project currently underway in the Deep and Rocky River areas of conservation. This will be done through an assessment of natural resources represented in numerous geospatial data layers.
This position is responsible for:
- researching the project area and generating a background narrative
- finding and preparing data
- creating and running GIS models
- producing outputs (maps, tables, report) for the area
- help coordinate a technical advisory group to provide feedback on data and models
- support TLC staff with two stakeholder outreach meetings
In addition to core responsibilities…
- opportunity to spend time learning about other aspects of TLC such as fieldwork, land management, outreach, etc.
- potential to expand on the project as part of a master’s project requirement or other coursework
- start date preferred is the current spring semester, or as soon as possible
- the position is full-time for summer 2022 – part-time work during the school year
- applicants should be current or recent graduate students with experience in geospatial analysis either in practice or through extensive coursework or through extensive coursework
Additional requirements:
- proficient in ArcGIS Pro
- knowledge of natural resource data including working with both raster and vector data sets
- knowledge of GIS model builder and prefer experience with site suitability analysis or similar methodologies
- ability to manage and organize large data sets
- ability to produce visually appealing and clear results through maps, tables, charts
- pay is $12-$14/hr
