Description

This position focuses on pedestrian and bicyclist safety and mobility, with some parts of the work focused specifically on child and youth issues. Bridging both the realms of research and practice, the position requires an energetic, strategic, multi-tasker with a diverse skill set. Responsibilities will include assisting with development and implementation of research projects, such as writing literature reviews, conducting qualitative interviews, contributing to analysis and writing reports as well as involvement in the planning and delivery of practitioner-focused technical assistance using a combination of written, oral and web-based strategies. The position requires someone passionate about supporting transportation and other safety and health professionals in using evidence-based approaches in their work. Examples of projects currently underway include (but not limited to) the Vision Zero for Youth initiative and the creation of a US-based and international award to disseminate youth-focused approaches to advancing safety for all road users and demonstration site evaluation, development of a tool to help prioritize youth travel-related pedestrian and bicycle improvements, planning and delivery of webinars on a range of pedestrian and bicyclist topics geared to professionals through our US Federal Highway Administration-funded Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center. Interactions with HSRC colleagues, other UNC departments, external partners, project sponsors and the general public will all be required to carry-out their work. Travel to professional meetings, conferences, training and special events will be expected. Candidates for this position should expect to work on several projects at any given time, and with more than one project leader, so the ability to adapt to changing teams is expected.
