Dewberry is currently seeking an experienced Transportation Designer for our office in Raleigh, North Carolina.  Position will involve design services for various traffic engineering and roadway design projects, including work on plans for work zone traffic control, signing and pavement marking, traffic signals, signal systems and ITS.  Work may also include assisting with roadway plan preparation.  Individual will have experience completing design projects in Microstation.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will work on all phases of transportation projects for a variety of public and private sector clients. Transportation projects will include work zone traffic for both highways and urban streets, design of municipal traffic signal systems, utility-make ready plans and communications cable routing plans, signing and pavement markings for urban and highway projects as well as airport landside projects, design-build highway projects, and roadway projects.  The candidate will perform field investigations and data collection for such projects, then compile the data and translate the data for presentation on construction plans. The candidate may lead designated tasks on large projects, including planning and organizing field data collection efforts and plan preparation/production efforts and providing technical direction to less experienced team members.

Required Skills & Required Experience:

  • Associate Degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design or Civil Engineering, with Bachelor’s Degree desirable.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in traffic design.
  • Experience in roadway/street design is a plus but not required.
  • Proficient with Microstation.
  • Working knowledge of NCDOT design standards, CADD standardsand and Microstation workspaces.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office applications such as Work and Excel.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills are required.
  • Ability to work independently and take on the responsibility of making basic design decisions.
