North Carolina State University Transportation Department (NC State Transportation) is a receipts-supported auxiliary within the Finance and Administration Division responsible for parking and transit services, managing 20,000 parking spaces, maintenance and operation of 9 parking decks, enforcing parking regulations, parking citation review, and appeal and administration of a 12-route transit system serving over 3.6 million riders per year.
This is a professional staff position in the Planning and Operations unit of NCSU Transportation. This position works under the supervision of the Assistant Director for Planning and Operations overseeing the Wolfline transit system.
Primary duties of the Transit Planner include, but are not limited to the following:
- Serving as liaison between service provider and NC State Transportation to ensure compliance with service contract.
- Planning and evaluating transit routes, communicate university activities/events that affect transit service (construction, special events, etc).
- Coordinating customer service interactions.
- Consulting on the creation of graphics, social media, and promotional materials.
- Perform other duties as assigned

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
The selected candidate will have a broad understanding of Planning Principles and Practices specific to Transit such as:
- Survey and statistical methods
- Project management
- Data base creation and analysis
- Research techniques
- Public transit systems
- Alternative transportation marketing and promotion techniques
- Presentation graphics and mapping (GIS)
- Travel demand modeling
- Transportation master planning
- Computer skills to include Microsoft word, excel, access, and social media
- BA / BS in related field. 1+ year of related work experience in transit operations, planning, logistics, customer service, and community relations.
- Experience working with a transit system.
A valid NC Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire is required.
