Urban Planner- Economic Dev. Focus

The Town of Winterville seeks qualified candidates for the position of Economic Development Planner. An employee in this class assists the Town Manager and performs complex professional work planning, directing, coordinating and supervising economic development activities including business development and sustainability, and related work as apparent/assigned. This position may also assist the Planning Director with applicable zoning and related planning issues as needed. Work requires considerable public contact with a variety of people/entities, especially property owners, persons associated with potential economic development projects, lending institutions, realtors, attorneys, non-profit agencies and organizations, etc. Extensive judgment, initiative and ability to independently conduct research projects, compile reports, make presentations and recommendations for various programs and functions of the Town is required. Knowledge and skill in process design and facilitation to obtain citizen and developer input and develop consensus among conflicted parties is also required. Work includes developing and marketing Town programs through preparation and distribution of written materials and through public meetings and workshops. Work is performed under general administrative direction of the Town Manager.

Graduation from a college or university with a degree in planning, public administration or related field and experience in economic development, municipal planning or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license is also required. Salary range: $61,445 – $89,973 with starting salary DOQ.
