CAMPO acts as one of the lead agencies for the Wake Transit Program, focused on the implementation of the Wake Transit Plan. This plan, which was adopted in 2016 and is supported by a voter-approved half-cent sales tax, is a combined investment strategy which reflects a vision for transit service development governed by the “Four Big Moves”: to connect regionally; to connect all Wake County communities; to provide frequent and reliable urban mobility; and to provide enhanced access to transit. The Wake Transit Planner position will be the newest member of CAMPO’s Wake Transit team, a group that is focused on ensuring the transformative goals of the Wake Transit Plan become a reality. The person in this position will be focused on supporting a variety of ongoing services related to the Wake Transit Plan implementation and the administrative support for the Wake County Transit Planning Advisory Committee (TPAC).

This position performs regional transit planning activities and is performed under the general supervision of the Wake Transit Program Manager. This position is based out of the CAMPO offices in Cary. This position may be eligible for partial telework schedule after the successful completion of an initial probationary period.

Anticipated hiring range – $61,776 – $70,075

Typical Tasks
Your day-to-day work may include, but is not limited to:

  • Responsible for assisting in the development of various components of the annual Wake Transit Work Plan, including quarterly amendment requests;
  • Assists in the development of elements of the multi-year service implementation plans (Wake Bus Plan, other Major Investment Studies, etc);
  • Provide technical assistance to Community Funding Area program applicants and project sponsors;
  • Provide administrative and coordination support for TPAC subcommittees;
  • Support Wake Transit concurrence process;
  • Assist with other Wake Transit activities and programs;
  • Assists with maintenance of the online Wake Transit Performance Tracker;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to work under pressure on several projects simultaneously and within time constraints; ability to analyze a problem and make independent judgments without close supervision; ability to analyze technical information, policies, and ordinances; ability to perform independent research and develop recommendations; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to supervise other personnel in a project coordination role; ability to deal effectively with the general public; ability to adapt to changing technology.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Any combination of experience equivalent to a graduation from a four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in planning, engineering, geography, or a related field and considerable experience in planning, engineering, geography or a related field.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in MS Office, ArcGIS, Remix, and TransCAD. Preference will be given to candidates with AICP certification or the ability to obtain this certification.

CONDITIONS OF CAMPO EMPLOYMENT:

Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.

Requires a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The work in this class is generally sedentary and is typically performed indoors. An employee must be able to move throughout facilities freely to perform or observe work. An employee must have visual acuity to be able to read and write handwritten and typewritten materials, including being able to view a computer screen. An employee must have the ability to work safely in and around traffic and active construction sites occasionally. An employee must be able to talk and hear in order to communicate and respond to the public and other employees.
