Zoning Compliance Official

New Hanover County is seeking a motivated Zoning Compliance Official to join the Planning & Land Use department. This position assists with the administration and implementation of the county’s land use regulations, floodplain management program, and Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA) program. Duties include reviewing development plans for compliance with the county’s Unified Development Ordinance and other land use law and regulations; issuing permits; investigating and documenting reports of violations and issuing appropriate notices; testifying in court; providing information to the public; and performing disaster preparedness and response duties. New Hanover County’s Planning & Land Use Department is comprised of a team of dedicated professionals who stay committed to the County’s goal of intelligent growth and economic development by providing services in the areas of current and long range planning and zoning. The department oversees research, planning, and zoning activities to ensure orderly growth and development for New Hanover County. The comprehensive plan is used as a guide, to address our County’s current development trends, determine a vision for how the community would like to see New Hanover County develop over the next twenty-five years, and determine a plan for how to achieve this vision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates Degree with two (2) years of college coursework involving: environmental science, geography, planning, engineering, drafting, horticulture, or a related field and one (1) year of related code enforcement, planning or other regulatory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

• NC Driver License
• Certified Zoning Official (within 2 years)
• Certified Floodplain Manager (within 2 years)
