Requirements
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in urban planning, landscape architecture, urban design, engineering, or a related field
  • At least 2 years of planning experience at a consulting firm, public entity, non-profit, or higher learning institution
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and multi-phased projects

Requirements
  • A bachelors or master’s degree in landscape architecture.

About the Role

Spin’s Policy Initiatives team develops programs to lay the groundwork for making micromobility safer for riders, healthier for our communities, and accessible to all. We focus on street infrastructure improvements, sustainability, safety, and equity. Spin’s Streets and Equity group focuses on delivering projects to make our streets safe, livable, and just.

This individual will be responsible for developing our Equity program efforts across all of our markets, developing programs and partnerships that focus on transportation justice and equity. The ideal person will be a passionate urbanist seeking to work with communities and advocates so Spin can better serve the needs of communities of concern, especially those with limited incomes, the un(der)banked, and those who face disproportionate challenges with getting where they need to be.

Responsibilities

  • Build and implement an equity roadmap of projects and programs that will guide inputs into city RFP processes.
  • Work cross-functionally with the Partnerships, Operations, and Finance teams to shape equity proposals in RFPs.
  • Work cross-functionally with the Policy Initiatives, Product, Operations, and Partnerships teams to help administer Spin Access (Spin’s existing low income discount program).
  • Work with leaders in the equity space to obtain feedback and support for Spin’s equity programs.
  • Oversee relevant equity related studies and develop equity research roadmap.
  • Scope, oversee and manage Spin Streets projects that focus on equity and mobility justice.
  • Develop and communicate externally facing equity program content for cities and other relevant partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • 8+ years working experience in transportation equity or closely related fields.
  • Passion and experience working with marginalized communities.

  • Work cross-functionally with Spin’s Partnerships team to support safety requirements in RFP processes.
  • Work cross-functionally with Spin’s Community Partnerships team to support implementation of Spin’s safety programs.
  • Partner closely with the Product and Engineering teams to design hardware and software solutions to promote safe micromobility vehicle usage for Spin riders.
  • Collaborate with the Streets and Equity teams to drive systemic improvements in safe micromobility usage.
  • Work with third party validators to obtain feedback and support for the program.
  • Oversee relevant safety related studies and develop safety research roadmap.
  • Develop and communicate a pipeline of external facing content for the media, cities, and other relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • 8 years working experience in transportation safety or closely related field.
  • Experience working as a product manager or cross functionally with product managers or related work.

The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate a knowledge in Civil/Transportation Engineering specific to transit, roadway and urban design, drainage design, grading design, traffic control design, and the preparation of construction documents, including plans, specifications and construction estimates.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Researching and writing Urban Corridor Improvement plans
  • Developing plans for Bus Rapid Transit, Light Rail Transit, and other multi-modal improvements
  • Developing Site Grading Plans
  • Arterial Reconstruction and/or Traffic Signal Improvement Plans
  • Drainage and Erosion Control Plans
  • Utility coordination
  • Coordination with the transportation planning team to conduct equitable public outreach, preparing materials and presentations.
  • Assists with other duties assigned by senior staff and/or Project Managers.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Valid Drivers License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical writing
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley Microstation/Geopak/Inroads
  • Proficiency with Geographic Information Systems, including ArcMap and ArcGIS Online
  • Previous internship experience with an emphasis in civil engineering fields such as transit design, roadway design, site design, utility design, stormwater and multimodal transportation projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Supports planning studies and reports for new and updated plans and programs.
  • Collects a variety of statistical data and prepares reports and maps on topics, such as census information, land use, roadway network, transit network, crash records, ridership, and asset inventories.
  • Analyzes data and prepares detailed maps for use on thematic maps and in reports.
  • Conducts concept level evaluation of transportation improvement options.
  • Documents and presents findings on transportation planning projects.
  • Researches current transportation related topics at local, State, and Federal levels.
  • Researches project options and documents findings.
  • Supports public outreach activities.
  • Assists with other duties assigned by senior staff and/or Project Managers.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Valid Drivers License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters preferred in Urban Planning, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Sciences, Economics, or related fields
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency with Geographic Information Systems, including ArcMap and ArcGIS Online
  • Proficiency with InDesign and various graphics software
  • Basic knowledge of transportation planning topics
  • Related experience through internships

Wetherill Engineering, Inc. is seeking an experienced, motivated individual to manage the Transportation, Planning & Traffic Engineering unit as the Transportation Planning Manager in Raleigh, NC. The ideal candidate is a licensed engineer with a minimum of 15+ years in traffic engineering and/or transportation planner. This position will work on a variety of transportation assignments including capacity analyses, traffic impacts studies, environmental studies, long-range plans, and multimodal assessments, among others. The Transportation Planning Manager is best suited for someone who possesses a proven record of client interaction and the ability to plan and manage planning efforts. The position requires a person who is thorough, self-directed, and having sound interpersonal skills to build and maintain professional relationships at all organizational levels.

The Transportation Planning Manager position is full-time (30-40 hours weekly) with benefits that include health, vision, life, and dental insurance along with a retirement plan plus paid holidays and vacation. Salary range for this position is $90,000 – $120,000 annually. Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Key Responsibilities

· Develop and manage traffic planning projects including Planning Studies, data analysis, intersection analysis, interchange justification reports, performing capacity analysis on networks and the development of Traffic Impact Studies;

· Oversee management of project budgets and consultant activities and ensures compliance with project schedules, budgets, and applicable regulations, policies, and procedures;

· Develop relationships that lead to long-term business partnerships that extend beyond project completion, while working towards mutual success for our clients and Wetherill Engineering, Inc;

· Prepare, review, and/or maintain technical, financial, and general reports, presentations, long- and short-range plans, agenda items, records, and other documents;

· Represent clients at public meetings, performing contract negotiation and administration, and project budgeting;

· Maintain and enhance Wetherill Engineering, Inc.’s reputation with clients, approval agencies and industry professionals as an outstanding service provider;

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Knowledge of means and methods, materials and industry standards;

· Knowledge of basic roadway and traffic engineering principals;

· Ability to develop submissions per NCDOT standards and requirements;

· Strong project management skills, with experience in organizing, planning and executing multiple concurrent projects from pursuit through closeout, involving internal personnel, contractors and vendors;

· Proficient skills in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant design software, which may include AutoCAD Civil3D, GIS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, Storm CAD, Water CAD, and Pond Pack;

· Ability to participate and lead discussions in a variety of settings with clients, teams, etc.;

· Strong analytical and communication skills, both written and oral;

· Valid driver’s license.

Education and Experience

· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering;

· Professional Engineer (P.E) / Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) – is desirable;

· Minimum of 15+ years of experience as a traffic engineer and/or transportation planner;

· Experience with Highway Safety Manual, Highway Capacity Manual, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and AASHTO guidelines;

· Experience in planning or project management for transportation projects;

· Experience with Synchro and Transmodeler. Experience with Trans CAD – a plus;

· Experience with GIS and concept rendering software – a plus.

Travel will be required such as attending meetings or visiting job sites. Fieldwork may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

DUTIES:

Land of Sky Regional Council is seeking a motivated individual to fill a permanent Regional Transportation Planner position. The position is responsible for the Regional Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Program for the Land of Sky Region. They will also work with the Economic and Community Development Department to complete various transportation, land use, workforce development, and technical assistance work to member governments. The position will plan, organize and coordinate activities of the TDM program. This program will facilitate transportation demand management strategies to reduce employee travel demand and shift behavior away from single occupant vehicles. For example, the TDM program coordinator will be responsible for developing information regarding: charts on typical peak time drive times and transit trip times to major employment centers in the region; transit schedules, routes and fares and transportation schedules; carpools, vanpools and ridesharing; and bicycling and pedestrian safety tips for all users.

Distinguishing Features of the Class: This position is responsible for facilitating communication and collaboration with companies, academic institutions, local, state and federal government, and other agencies to develop a ridership for alternative transportation in the region. The planner must briefly interview perspective partners and clients to obtain sufficient information and assess the transportation options, offer assistance to clients in a friendly, courteous caring way. This worker must assure confidentiality of customer information is not compromised. Complexity of subject matter is substantial in this position as employee is responsible for evaluating, interpreting and explaining transportation planning, policies and procedures. Employee encounters a variety of situations and collaboratively determines appropriate course of action with supervision and is responsible for serving as an agency image.

Essential Duties and Tasks

  • Plans, organizes and coordinates the activities of TDM program;
  • Plans, designs and implements procedures for marketing and outreach programs for all through advertising campaigns, relationships with the marketing departments of other alternative transportation providers in the region and state, development of promotional packages, and outreach to employers who provide incentives to employees who use alternative transportation;
  • Establishes and implements quality control procedures and performance measures to ensure a high level of customer service, appropriate implementation of alternative transportation incentive programs, and effectiveness of marketing the TDM program;
  • Assigns and evaluates consultant work;
  • Develops and manages the marketing and outreach budget;
  • Oversees advertising campaigns;
  • Determines requirements and makes recommendations of participating employers and incentive participants;
  • Coordinates with other alternative transportation providers in the region and the state to accomplish work program established for marketing and outreach of the TDM Program;
  • Coordinates with and provides necessary support for the vanpool program in order to maintain current ridership and grow the program and assists in planning routes and works with vanpool providers;
  • Provides for special requests for TDM program marketing and outreach information from agency, regionwide,statewide and nationwide entities;
  • Serves as the TDM Program’s representative on regional transportation/transit committees related to marketing and outreach of alternative transportation.
  • Plans, designs and implements procedures for assessment of development applications as they pertain to potential park- and-ride facilities, including coordination with transit services and local land use agencies;
  • Coordinate Strive (Not to Drive) community events with regional partners and stakeholders;
  • Coordinates and assists with regional transit programs and funding opportunities as needed;
  • Develops appropriate grant applications for TDM programs; and
  • Assists in management of Federal Aid programs that fund commuter service activities
