The Connecticut Chapter of the American Planning Association is seeking applicants for a scholarship-internship position to work alongside their Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee in the formation of an Action Plan. The opportunity is remote, comes with a $3500 stipend, and the position provides support for course credit. The Connecticut Chapter of the American Planning Association (CCAPA) seeks to award a scholarshipinternship to assist the CCAPA and its Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion ad hoc Committee (ED+I Committee) in the creation of a chapter Action Plan. This opportunity is offered to students currently enrolled or recently graduated who would like to help direct the CCAPA as they seek ways to facilitate a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive planning profession in the State of Connecticut. The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Scholarship-Intern will have the opportunity to earn course credit and practice data collection and analysis techniques through a planning focused lens. This scholarship-internship will be remote and will not require in person meetings.

The primary responsibilities of the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Intern will include:

  • Demographic research and analysis of Connecticut.
  • Creation, dissemination, and analysis of survey materials for a variety of audiences.
  • Leading focus groups with executive membership of the CCAPA.
  • Research into national, state, and local resources for advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in the planning profession.
  • Drafting the report and working with the ED+I Committee to finalize the Action Plan.

Minimum Qualifications
The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Intern should:

  • have or will be working towards a Bachelor’s in urban planning, sociology, human rights, political science, women gender and sexuality studies, public administration, or a related field.
  • have experience or a demonstrated educational focus in qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • have experience or an educational focus in race, ethnicity, disability, gender, or sex.
  • be able to commit to an average of about 10 hours per week, with weeks of higher intensity and weeks of lower intensity.
  • have internet access to communicate with the CCAPA and the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee.

Position Supervision and Duration
This is a temporary opportunity. The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Intern will be expected to work about 10 hours a week from the beginning of April 2021 to the end of August 2021. Supervision and training will be provided by the CCAPA President and the ED+I Committee Chair.

Scholarship
A stipend of $3,500 and support for course credit are offered. The scholarship award is not required to go towards educational expenses.
