About Our Organization
The Durham – Chapel Hill – Carrboro Metro Planning Organization (DCHC MPO) area encompasses the western part of the Research Triangle, which is home to Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carlina Central University (NCCU) and
Research Triangle Park.
The MPO’s office, based in Durham NC, currently operates under a flexible, hybrid work policy. Effective July 1, 2023, the MPO will migrate from the City of Durham to the Triangle J Council of Governments. This position, while housed at TJCOG, will report to the DCHC MPO Executive Director.

About the Role
DCHC MPO is now accepting applications for 2 part-time/intern positions of technical analysis and modeling support. The person has an opportunity to work with a skilled and experienced team to help with traffic modeling and simulation, data process, application, and maintenance, as well as other analytical work.

Education Levels and Requirements:
• Senior student in civil engineering, urban/regional planning, geography, computer science & engineering, and other relevant majors is required; candidates with Undergraduate or Graduate degree (or pursuing graduate degree) in transportation/traffic
engineering, urban/regional planning, GIS, computer science, operations research, and other relevant major/program would be desirable.

Preferred Skills and Experiences:
• Traffic analysis/modeling and simulation skills and experience, especially experience with Synchro, HCS, and TransCAD or other traffic or modeling software,
• Experience in a big data, data process automation, or traffic monitoring and data QA/QC
• Experience with GIS software and Spatial Analysis preferred (but not required)
