Transportation Planner

As the Transportation Planner for the Town of Holly Springs you will be a part of a team of planners that have a passion for land-use, urban design, mobility, and transportation planning in a growing and dynamic community. Your role as Transportation Planner will be to lead multi-modal transportation planning projects and to coordinate with our local and regional partners to improve the transportation network in our community.

The Transportation Planner position is a part of the recently formed Development Services Department that brings together planners, engineers, and building code officials to promote collaboration, innovation, and efficiency for the development process.

What you will bring to our Development Services Team:
• A Bachelor’s degree in city and regional planning, transportation planning, civil engineering, public policy/administration, geography, or a related field.
• 3 years experience in transportation planning or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Applicants with less experience may be considered.
• Knowledge and/or experience working with regional planning organizations such as MPOs/RPOs.
• Demonstrated ability to manage or facilitate complex projects and/or transportation grant funding.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of traffic impact analysis review and evaluation is preferred but not a requirement.

What you will be doing:
• Managing transportation planning projects, such as the Comprehensive Transportation Plan and special studies.
• Promoting the Town’s transportation projects with local and regional partners (i.e. CAMPO, Wake Transit, NCDOT).
• Leading interdepartmental work teams with short- and long-range planning projects.
• Seeking funding and coordinate grants for various transportation improvement projects.
• Recommending new policies and ordinances.
• Informing citizens, developers, and public officials regarding transportation-related matters, which will provide opportunities to lead public meetings and make public presentations.
• Reviewing development applications for compliance with applicable transportation-related plans and ordinances, including Transportation Impact Analysis reports.
