This position will support our extensive plan implementation and plan development practice areas. Work will involve research, preparation of plan documents, public engagement assistance, mapping and analysis, supporting ordinance drafting in areas such as zoning, and research on sustainability and resiliency issues. This position provides administrative, technical, and project support to code compliance, permitting, zoning and long-range planning needs for a growing community west of Asheville, and the “Gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.”

Duties include developing planning studies and reports, evaluating land use regulations, rezoning requests, code compliance, and assisting with special projects, programs and other initiatives. Candidates must have GIS skills, the ability to prepare and communicate written and oral reports, and to process complex information and tasks. The Transportation Planning Division is seeking a motivated and organized self-starter to fill the role of Complete Streets/GIS Specialist. The University of North Carolina Highway Safety Research Center (HSRC) is looking for a student to prepare pedestrian, bicycle and other traffic data for transportation safety analysis. This work will help us understand how to make streets safer for all.
