Description

Planner/Code Enforcement Officer Atlantic Beach, NC. Conducts technical, professional and administrative activities for the Town’s Planning, Zoning, and Inspections Department. Perform responsible technical inspections work enforcing the Unified Development Ordinance; intermediate professional work in the administration of local ordinances with respect to zoning, subdivision, stormwater and floodplain management. Assists with facilitating the Zoning Board of Adjustment and Planning Board meetings; and all other related development and land use programs for the Town and a variety of assignments; processes grant applications and does related work as required. Works under the direction of Planning and Development Director.

Graduation from accredited college with preferred degree in planning, geography, engineering, environmental technology or related field and some experience with GIS software. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Prefer 2-5 years of experience with certifications in Zoning and Floodplain Management. Knowledge of the North Carolina General Statutes and planning/development law required. Ability to communicate written/orally; establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town employees, elected and appointed officials, state and local agencies, and the general public.

Hiring range $45,000-$54,000 based on level of education, experience and certifications.. Position Overview
Performs journey-level current and long range planning activities for the Planning and Development Services Department.

General Responsibilities
• Answers a variety of questions from developers, architects and the general public in obtaining information and coordinating planning matters.

• Administers the Historic Preservation Commission and enforces related City ordinances.
• Uses a variety of computer programs including GIS to generate reports and data and to prepare presentations, charts, maps, graphs, and other illustrative materials for presentation to elected officials, appointed boards, and citizens.

Qualifications
Desirable Education and Experience
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in planning, geography, public administration, community development or related field, and considerable professional experience in public sector planning; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements
• Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina.
• Prefer certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (ACIP)

– Updates material pertaining to the Village of Clemmons development approval process.

Salary is $15.00 per hour. Hours per week will be 40 with a cap of 480 hours. This position does not include Benefits.
