Description

This position will require that you bring your passion for public service and historic preservation to the team every day. Your responsibilities will include managing medium- and small-scaled projects that improve our community and the lives of those living in it. You will work directly with stakeholders ranging from the public, other agencies and elected or appointed official. You and the team will conduct research, analyze data, report results and make recommendations. Your days will vary. One day you might be in the field meeting with property owners about improvements they want to do to their structure, the next you will be analyzing the results from a petition for the creation of a new historic district. The next might be spent preparing a staff report for the upcoming Houston Archaeological and Historical Commission (HAHC).

This Planner I position provides support to the team through technical reviews, research and analysis of planning data for activities relating to the Historic Preservation Ordinance. Planning activities include but are not limited to certificates of appropriateness, landmark designations, historic districts, design guidelines, historic tax exemptions, technical assistance and consultation, and community educational outreach.
