Employees in this class perform a wide variety of administrative support, secretarial, office management,
and clerical duties. Work generally requires that employees independently handle certain activities such as
information processing and referral, fiscal controls, computer systems administration, or a special aspect of a
program of office activity. Secretarial duties are considered at the advanced journey level and require considerable
tact and discretion in handling sensitive or confidential matters in the program areas. Work requires a broader
knowledge of office operations in order that the role may serve as backup and at a competent level in several
roles. Frequent personal contact is required with developers, surveyors, county employees, property owners, and
the general public. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Planning & Inspections Director or
other designated departmental supervisor and is evaluated through observation, conferences, and the quality and
effectiveness of work completed.

This position requires advanced professional planning experience as it often leads or is significantly involved with larger, more complex planning assignments and projects. The Senior Planner – Current Planning should possess greater independence and judgment while receiving general supervision from the Planning Director. This position supervises current planning division staff and offers the potential for future advancement.

Under limited supervision, performs supervisory, technical administrative and professional work in directing and coordinating the activities of the Planning Department to ensure the protection of the natural environment, the orderly growth and efficient administration of County resources. The Director of Planning is responsible for enforcement of land use ordinances such as those pertaining to subdivisions, mobile homes, flood damage prevention and others; and providing administrative supervision for code enforcement activities of the Department. The position is responsible for the formulation, implementation, modification and improvement of master and subsidiary plans for the County’s physical and community development, including the formulation of a comprehensive land use plan. Position is also responsible for serving as a technical advisor to the Board of County Commissioners and County Manager on matters relating to planning and development. Supervises a staff of professional, technical and support personnel. The Planning Director reports to the County Manager.

THE ROLE | We are seeking full-time Summer Analyst Fellows for 12 weeks in our New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Washington, DC offices. Our analytical staff form the foundation of our team-oriented and collaborative structure, and help to drive our data-driven approach to city building. Many current members of HR&A’s team started as Summer Analyst Fellows.

Summer Analyst Fellows are asked to take on responsibilities in line with those of the core analytical staff at HR&A. Day-to-day tasks range from project to project, and often include market analysis; case study research; econometric modeling; spatial analysis; preparation of real estate pro formas for a range of uses and public-private structures; and public policy analysis. Analyst Fellows also help prepare written reports, presentations, and Excel models for clients, as well as firm marketing materials and proposals for new projects.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED | HR&A is accepting applications from candidates who have earned their Bachelor’s degree and may be working towards completion of an advanced degree, preferably with a concentration in urban planning, real estate finance, economic development, public policy, and/or housing finance. We are looking for candidates with strong quantitative and qualitative skills, a passion for urban development and policy, and a deep curiosity about the challenges and opportunities facing cities today. Our new team members will learn quickly, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be able to manage multiple assignments at once. COMPENSATION | Full-time Analyst Fellows will be paid a monthly stipend based on experience and qualifications.

The King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks (DNRP), Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD), seeks several full-time summer interns. Assignments will be to one of the following areas, providing experience in the practical application of coursework in a large-scale urban infrastructure system.
