Climate Corps is the go-to graduate fellowship program for a career in sustainability. Fellows join a network of over a thousand Climate Corps alumni and other energy and sustainability professionals, working to advance climate solutions in leading organizations around the world.
Our program selects candidates from a variety of disciplines to work for a summer with companies and public institutions to identify opportunities to reduce emissions in their operations and supply chains and meet climate commitments. Fellows will gain access to an interactive training as well continuing education, including professional development opportunities, online resources and opportunities to connect with and learn from the network.
Since 2008, Climate Corps has placed over 1,200 fellows in host organizations including City of Seattle, Etsy, Google, Mayo Clinic and Carlyle Group. A list of 2022 host organizations will be available to candidates during the interview process. Fellows are matched with host organizations based on their location, industry and project type preferences. See the full list of past organizations on our website.
Projects to Match Your Unique Skills and Career Goals
Working under the guidance of a host supervisor and EDF engagement manager, fellows uncover emissions reduction opportunities and develop climate solutions for their host organization. Projects culminate in a written report and series of recommendations to the host organization. Projects may focus on:
• Climate Commitments: Work on cross-cutting strategies to reduce emissions including Net Zero, Science Based Targets, greenhouse gas accounting, and municipal climate planning.
• Renewables and Energy Efficiency: Develop targeted strategies to implement on-site and off-site renewable energy and scale energy efficiency.
• Supply Chain Sustainability: Quantify and baseline Scope 3 emissions and develop recommendations to engage suppliers on sustainability efforts.
• Zero Emission Vehicles: Build roadmaps to electrify medium and heavy-duty fleets.
New for 2022:
• Food Waste Reduction: In partnership with ReFED, a limited number of fellows will work within companies to advance strategic food waste reduction initiatives and accelerate implementation of high-impact solutions.
Required Qualifications
• At the time of application, enrolled in a graduate certificate or degree program studying engineering, business, sustainability, environmental management, public policy or other relevant subjects.
• At least 2 years of work experience.
• Self-starter with project management and leadership experience, including demonstrated success aligning and collaborating across teams.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
• A passion for solving environmental challenges.
• Eligible to work in the United States during the summer of 2022.
Depending on available projects, additional skills may be useful:
• Strong financial and quantitative skills, including project valuation.
• Demonstrated experience working on energy efficiency, clean energy, vehicle electrification, food waste or sustainability projects.
• Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
• Familiarity with greenhouse gas emissions accounting and reporting frameworks (e.g., CDP, GHG Protocol, The
Climate Registry).

Compensation
$1,250 per week for 8-12 weeks, plus one week’s salary for participation in Fellow Training.

Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Stewardship Manager will work collaboratively with partners, landowners, staff, and Trustees to ensure the protection of the State’s investment in conservation. The Stewardship Manager will oversee and conduct annual monitoring of conservation agreements, review plans and requests, and resolve issues. As a member of the Acquisition team, the Stewardship Manager will also provide review of applications and pre-closing materials to ensure conservation agreements are consistent with stewardship objectives. The Stewardship Manager must possess a broad understanding of natural resource management and specific knowledge about current policies and programs related to land conservation, natural area management, conservation funding, and stewardship issues in North Carolina. The Stewardship Manager must have considerable experience interacting tactfully and effectively with staff, landowners, the general public, and board members/trustees. The Stewardship Manager must also possess the ability to communicate effectively and to present complex information in a concise and articulate manner in both written and oral form; to manage changing work tasks in a dynamic team environment; to plan, organize, and direct work operations; and to prepare and administer a budget. This position will maintain effective working relationships with public officials, field professionals, coworkers, supervisor, and the general public.

Key Responsibilities:
– Reviewing annual grant applications to ensure that stewardship strategies are consistent with policy
– Assisting Acquisition team with review of closing materials, including conservation agreements and baseline documentation reports
– Managing annual monitoring contracts with conservation organizations, including report review and invoice payment
– On-the-ground and remote monitoring of a portfolio of conservation agreements
– Serving as the point of contact for conservation agreement inquiries, reviewing reserved right and amendment requests, and resolving conservation agreement violations
– Managing the NC Conservation Easement Endowment Fund and corresponding operational fund
– Leading the review and improvement of policies and procedures that guide the program
– Maintaining all deed and GIS data associated with conservation agreements
– Assisting with other NCLWF program responsibilities as needed

Division Description:
The Division of Land and Water Stewardship is a non-regulatory division within DNCR that provides information, technical assistance, and grants to support effective conservation. The office is an integral part of the state’s conservation efforts and seeks to maintain a positive relationship with communities through partnerships with local, state, and federal agencies, industries, organizations, and private citizens.

The North Carolina Land and Water Fund (NCLWF) provides grant assistance to non-profits, local governments, and state agencies for the protection of natural resources in North Carolina. NCLWF funds projects that (1) enhance or restore degraded waters, (2) protect unpolluted waters, (3) contribute toward a network of riparian buffers and greenways for environmental, educational, and recreational benefits, (4) provide buffers around military bases to protect the military mission, (5) acquire land that represents the ecological diversity of North Carolina, and/or (6) acquire land that contributes to the development of a balanced state program of historic properties.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
