Ability to work across agencies and the ability to explain complex transportation issues in a clear and concise manner is essential.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in planning, transportation systems, geography, or related field and three years of experience. Preference will be given to applicants have experience working with transportation agencies or community planning organizations.

Primary Responsibilities

Key Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • A firm understanding of the multimodal transportation planning and public decision-making processes necessary to create systemwide, subarea, and corridor-level plans and project priorities.
  • Technical expertise in one or more of the following: transportation planning, transportation engineering, travel demand forecasting, environmental analyses, growth management policy, or other related disciplinary expertise.
  • Proficiency in utilizing software/tools for transportation analyses (such as ArcGIS, Cube Voyager, and STOPS modeling platforms) and an interest in advancing new tools/approaches.
  • Proficiency in writing compelling content in multimedia formats that clarify key findings and include adequate technical depth.
    Adept at synthesizing complex technical information into clear, engaging presentations for a wide range of audiences.

Training and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Engineering, Public Policy, or relevant field required. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation or community planning is required.
  • Certification or licensure in related fields (AICP, CTP, PTP, and/or PE) preferred.

Bike Durham is seeking to contract with an individual to coordinate community outreach activities for a safe streets project in the Burch Avenue neighborhood this summer. Summary + Overview

This full-time position is responsible for contributing to the production of high-quality materials, reports and other deliverables in support of project objectives.

Summary:
The Greer Group is seeking a Planner for a client of ours in Raleigh, NC. This is a long term temporary position, lasting one year.

Overview:
The Planner will oversee and implement a micro transit pilot which will explore improving transportation services for seniors, people with disabilities, financially vulnerable residents, and veterans in the Northeastern area of Wake County.

Job Duties:

  • Research, develop and assist in the administration of a local, demand-response transit program using grant funding. This will begin with a pilot program and the potential development of a permanent system with the opportunity to expand in other areas.
  • Assist with assessing priorities and developing recommendations to address unmet or anticipated transportation need, including recommendations for service hours, service expansion, and cross-system transit
  • Develop policies and procedure manuals
  • Explore funding options, monitor and report federal grant activities and requirements related to transit projects. Prepare information documents of findings and conclusions for program leadership, regional planning organization, and executives
  • Conduct and participate in the coordination of meetings with various stakeholders and community groups to educate, market and determine transit dependent community needs

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Planning, Public or Business Administration; combination of education and experience that provides the necessary skills and abilities to perform the essential job duties.
  • Strong research, report writing, project management and MS Office computer skills.
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex transit issues and regulations into meaningful written and verbal presentation formats for target audiences.
  • Understanding of Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Americans with Disability (ADA) and other related federal, state and local regulations in the operations of a para/transit program.
