King County Metro Transit is currently hiring one undergraduate or graduate student intern or veteran fellow to work within Metro’s Mobility Services Rideshare and Flexible services team. This team runs the largest, longest-running public commuter van program in the nation, recently celebrating its 40th VANniversary. The team works to plan, pilot, implement, operate and promote multiple commute and community-centered flexible and shared transit alternatives as well as commute trip reduction efforts. Their work helps fill transportation gaps and connects people to work, school, home, recreation, services and their community.

Ideal start time for interns or fellows is May 2020. The position is expected to work full time hours over the summer and part time hours during until December 31, 2020. Metro is open to interns or fellows starting before or after May if schedules align for the intern or fellow and program. Performs responsible professional work in the management of staff and associated assignments within the Planning Department, primarily in the areas of long/short range planning, development ordinances, minimum housing and code enforcement.

An employee in this class has broad responsibilities in guiding, directing and working with staff, public bodies, public official, development community and citizens to ensure proper long/short range planning for the City, effect proactive and effective minimum housing and code enforcement related efforts, and administering development ordinances and policies. Oversee and guides special planning efforts such as small area studies, growth analysis, corridor overlays, comprehensive plan and land use analysis/changes, neighborhood improvement programs/efforts, development ordinance amendments, and associated policies, etc. Employee exercises decision making regarding the allocation of time and resources to project management, initiatives and programs. Position requires the ability to coordinate with and provide support to boards and commissions, attend meetings as necessary or directed. Work performance is evaluated through daily discussions, interactions and observations under the regular supervision of the Director of Planning & Transportation. Applicants of the DDETFP GRF must: Possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited IHE within the United States or its Territories; Demonstrate confirmation of acceptance in a graduate degree program at an accredited IHE in the United States or its Territories; Be enrolled in an accredited IHE within the United States or its Territories; Be pursuing a graduate degree in a full-time program in a transportation-related discipline identified in the assignment announcement; Have at least1 full academic year remaining in program of study; Conduct ongoing research in one or more transportation-related disciplines; and Plan to enter the transportation profession after completing their higher-level education.

The DDETFP provides funding for students to pursue master’s or doctoral degrees in transportation-related disciplines. The goals of these Grants are to 1) attract the nation’s brightest minds to the field of transportation, 2) enhance the careers of transportation professionals by encouraging them to seek advanced degrees, and 3)bring and retain top talent in the transportation industry of the United States.

The PLTF program provides fellowships to recent graduates (sometimes current graduate students) in a transportation-related engineering, planning, or resource management program a unique opportunity for career development and public service. Successful applicants are placed at a federal land unit facing a transportation issue to facilitate a transportation planning or implementation project. A transportation fellow is assigned to work directly with staff at a unit or headquarters/region/field office. The assigned projects help the land units develop transportation solutions that preserve valuable resources and enhance the visitor experience.

CHCI is seeking a Graduate Fellow interested in government affairs and the automotive industry and its surrounding business operations, such as mobility, infrastructure, robotics and society, and transportation. After a first-half placement in a Congressional office, the Toyota Graduate Fellow will work in the Toyota Government Affairs office in Washington, D.C. for the second half of the program. The Toyota Graduate Fellow will gain experience on policy issues related in the automotive industry and its surrounding business operations. This placement will provide the individual exposure to how public policy is influenced, developed and marketed. Assignments at Toyota may include impacting public policy with a diverse set of perspectives; conducting legislative/policy research and analysis; writing policy briefs and memos, and briefing summaries; drafting legislation, federal regulations, questions for committee hearings and talking points; engaging in educational advocacy on policy issues; and meeting with constituents, interest groups or others on behalf of the placement office.

THE TOWN PLANNER WILL:
