Employees in this class perform a wide variety of administrative support, secretarial, office management,
and clerical duties. Work generally requires that employees independently handle certain activities such as
information processing and referral, fiscal controls, computer systems administration, or a special aspect of a
program of office activity. Secretarial duties are considered at the advanced journey level and require considerable
tact and discretion in handling sensitive or confidential matters in the program areas. Work requires a broader
knowledge of office operations in order that the role may serve as backup and at a competent level in several
roles. Frequent personal contact is required with developers, surveyors, county employees, property owners, and
the general public. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Planning & Inspections Director or
other designated departmental supervisor and is evaluated through observation, conferences, and the quality and
effectiveness of work completed.

This position requires advanced professional planning experience as it often leads or is significantly involved with larger, more complex planning assignments and projects. The Senior Planner – Current Planning should possess greater independence and judgment while receiving general supervision from the Planning Director. Under limited supervision, performs supervisory, technical administrative and professional work in directing and coordinating the activities of the Planning Department to ensure the protection of the natural environment, the orderly growth and efficient administration of County resources. The Director of Planning is responsible for enforcement of land use ordinances such as those pertaining to subdivisions, mobile homes, flood damage prevention and others; and providing administrative supervision for code enforcement activities of the Department. The position is responsible for the formulation, implementation, modification and improvement of master and subsidiary plans for the County’s physical and community development, including the formulation of a comprehensive land use plan. Position is also responsible for serving as a technical advisor to the Board of County Commissioners and County Manager on matters relating to planning and development. Supervises a staff of professional, technical and support personnel. The Planning Director reports to the County Manager.

WILL Empower invites applications to its selective Apprenticeship Program​, a program designedto identify and recruit activists to the economic justice movement. The paid apprentices work for3-12 months with unions and worker organizations across the nation.WILL Empower​ (Women Innovating Labor Leadership) is a multipronged initiative designed toidentify, nurture, and train a new generation of women’s labor leadership. The WILL Empowerapprentices may work in a variety of capacities, including organizing, research, communications,politics, mobilization, and policy. Apprentices benefit from a formal mentorship program, withmentors both within and outside of the host organization, and participate in a WILL Empowertraining and gathering in Washington, DC in September.The next group of apprentices will begin work in the fall of 2020. Apprentices earn at least $15 anhour, or the salaried equivalent. The program is a full-time job training experience.Following successful completion of the program, WILL Empower staff work with programgraduates on job identification and recommendation.

The King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks (DNRP), Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD), seeks several full-time summer interns. The Mid-East Commission Planning, Economic Development, and Community Services Department, located in Washington, North Carolina serving a five county region, is seeking a qualified individual with education and experience in the areas of, Land Use Planning, Zoning Administration, Transportation Planning and Water Quality Planning, to fill the position of Planner. The Planner position, under the supervision of the Department Director, performs professional planning work for the COG. Work primarily includes conducting planning, zoning, land use, open space, water quality and assistance to the COG members, as well as coordination of Rural Transportation Planning Organizations (RPO). Work requires thorough knowledge of the planning field and is characterized by independent judgment and initiative in the performance of duties. Work is performed primarily in an inside environment. The employee may serve as a lead worker or project manager. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Director of Planning, Economic Development and Community Services and is evaluated through conferences, observation, reports, progress on projects, and feedback from the clients.
