Associate or Senior Associate Position

BAE Urban Economics, Inc. is seeking an outstanding Associate or Senior Associate level staff person to join our Washington DC office.

Associates work as part of a team to complete technical analyses and reports. Associates are expected to plan and execute analytical tasks, prioritize multiple assignments, and complete deliverables in a timely manner with creativity and attention to detail. We are seeking an Associate or Senior Associate who is passionate about the work we do, enjoys intellectual challenge, and has a desire to learn and grow professionally.

The Associate position requires:
• Masters degree in city and regional planning, business administration, or another related field
• 1-2 years relevant work experience
• Understanding of the real estate development process
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills in cash flow analysis, fiscal impacts and demographic trends
• Very strong professional writing skills
• Driver’s license and ability to travel

The Senior Associate position requires the qualifications above plus an additional two to three years of professional experience equivalent to the Associate position.

Skills and experience in GIS, IMPLAN and SPSS are desirable, as is a working knowledge of the greater Washington DC/Baltimore metropolitan area. The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for building relationships across diverse cultures and stakeholders. These stakeholders include local government staff and elected officials, donors, staff, community partners, developers, tenants, and homeowners. The ED is responsible for advocating for affordable housing strategies and policies; providing leadership and support to the Board of Directors in attaining and allocating resources; implementing programs; establishing program oversight and evaluation and providing leadership and direction to staff.

The ED ensures the long-term sustainability and effective execution of CHT’s mission. The ED is the organizational leader, who must have a strong working relationship with the staff, particularly the Director of Operations and Finance who oversees the work of the organization, including programs, finance and staffing.

Performs professional work participating in a variety of assignments in the Planning Department. Work involves the application of professional knowledge and skills in various municipal planning situations. Employee prepares or assists in the preparation of reports and plans affording considerable opportunity for independent judgment in laying out work details and making technical determinations.

Vance County is currently seeking a Planning & Development Director to join our management team of professionals. The position is responsible for professional and managerial work planning, organizing and directing a department responsible for land use planning and zoning compliance for Vance County, building inspections, commercial plans review, building codes and ordinance enforcement and building permitting functions for the County and the City of Henderson.

The Analyst will be an integral member of our consulting team, working in collaboration to research and analyze economic, demographic and real estate market trends across the country. The successful candidate will synthesize data and interpret economic and real estate trends. The individual will be a contributing member of the forecasting team, leveraging proprietary models to predict market trends. The Analyst will work with project managers to produce written studies, white papers, public policy memos and market outlooks.

The Real Estate Representative is responsible for managing the Company’s rail corridor property and select local government relationships that span 317 miles from Charlotte to Morehead City. The Real Estate Representative will work to ensure the preservation of the corridor, and safety of its users, while proactively developing relationships with neighbors of the railroad.

Reporting directly to the faculty Director and as part of a collaborative team that values transparency, the Deputy Director is responsible for: (1) managing DFI operations and programs, including but not limited to conflicts of interest, project and team evaluations, strategic priorities, performance measures, assigned staff, and budget creation and oversight; (2) advancing DFI’s business model and managing self-sustaining revenue-generating activities; (3) managing communications, marketing, and relationships with sponsors and partners; (4) handling personnel administration matters and other duties in support of the Director; (5) managing space, equipment, and other DFI resources; and (6) consistent with DFI’s strategic priorities and funding availability, support the development and execution of new development finance services for local government clients and their partners. The Deputy Director serves as a member of the DFI leadership team and interfaces regularly with School management.

This position will coordinate the research, implementation, and evaluation of strategies that are designed to create the sustainable conditions by which all Chatham County residents can lead active, healthy lives. Specifically, the position will oversee strategies and best practices that promote active transportation, inclusive healthy places and institutions, and improved nutrition and physical activity throughout the county. Current interventions include, but are not limited to: Healthy Hospitals, Community Conversations, Worksite Wellness, Exercise is Medicine, GO NAPSACC, and Built Environment/Community Design Planning.

Candidates should expect to get hands-on experience assisting with the implementation of a creative placemaking program, the Downtown Durham Public Space Project, and developing the downtown’s strategic planning document to guide future creative placemaking efforts. They will also get to be the voice and the eyes of the organization by assisting with writing about and photographing events and happenings around downtown. DDI is a small close-knit group and this individual will become an integral part of this team.

$1,500 for the 2019-20 School Calendar Year (the award will be distributed in two amounts of $750 each at the end of each semester of the 2019-2020 school year). It is the responsibility of the Fellowship recipient to maintain the course of study identified in their application and achieve a GPA of B or greater in both the semesters that the fellowship amounts are awarded. The recipient will also be required to summarize his or her project for publication in the ENRE Division’s newsletter. Additionally, the recipient will be encouraged to present his or her project at the ENRE Business Meeting during the APA National Planning Conference the following year (NPC 2021).
