Self-Help is seeking an intern to join our Real Estate Team’s project management group in Durham for summer 2022. The RE Development Intern will be responsible for supporting a project manager in ongoing real estate development activities, research and other support tasks, and new project predevelopment efforts. This internship will be particularly well suited for a positive, motivated, and well-organized person with an interest (but not necessarily experience) in community real estate development. The summer internship will begin in late May 2022 and will be based in our Durham, NC office (Covid-19 conditions permitting).

Required experience and skills:
–Graduate student, recent graduate, or at least in the third-year of an undergraduate degree program.
–Demonstrated interest in community development—through classes, prior work experience, and/or extracurricular activities.
–Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
–Strong organizational skills.
–An enthusiasm for learning—and a proficiency at distilling complex concepts in communication.
–Proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

TJCOG is seeking an intern to assist with various projects related to the American Rescue Plan (ARP). The selected candidate will work under the guidance of the Data Strategy Coordinator, on projects to support the memberships’ administration and expenditure of funds from the American Rescue Plan.

Additional projects could include:
• Developing a database of projects funded by TJCOG members through the American Rescue Plan
• Producing user guides and other support materials related to particular aspects of the American Rescue Plan funding
• Other American Rescue Plan-related projects agreed upon by the candidate and the League.

Internship Learning objectives:
Depending on the nature of the project, the selected candidate will gain experience in skills such as data collection, data analysis, policy research, memo writing, and project management.
This internship is in partnership with the North Carolina League of Municipalities (NCLM) who is also hosting an ARP internship. Interns from both organizations will have the opportunity to collaborate and as appropriate have an opportunity to attend meetings as a representative of TJCOG and interact with local staff and elected officials as a way of gaining familiarity with municipal government.

Required Skills:
This internship would be most appropriate for those currently enrolled in or having recently completed a graduate program in the subject area of: data science, public policy, public administration, urban planning or similar. Experience with data analysis using the Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel, is required. Ability to self-motivate and manage own working hours is required. PowerBI and GIS experience preferred. Experience working with elected and/or appointed government officials is a plus.

Schedule: 15-20 hours per week, with ability to complete majority of hours remotely.

Compensation: $15-$20 per hour.

The Center for City Solutions is seeking paid full-time research and data interns for FALL 2021. The positions are responsible for providing a quantitative, data-driven approach to NLC’s research projects within the Center for City Solutions and its cross-disciplinary initiatives in the areas of economic development, finance, local democracy and governance, urban innovation, sustainability, land use and housing. Responsibilities
Conduct research and field scans to understand local trends and best practices that will inform recommendations for local governments.
Provide a quantitative, data-driven approach to NLC’s research projects.

Contribute content to case studies, website, blog, social media, and other resources.
Help to create a highly engaged network of staff among City Solutions and other departments to coordinate work plans and research reports.

Education and Experience
Graduate level intern with:

Background in economics, public administration, public policy, or related field preferred.
Knowledge of local government and finance issues.
Proficiency managing data collection and using analysis tools such as R, STATA, GIS, and Excel.
Attention to detail and highly organized, as well as interested in supporting learning and training events serving government leaders.
Excellent writing and communication skills.
Experience working with a content management system to update websites preferred.
Ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with government officials and all levels of NLC staff.
Work Environment

Work is typically performed in a standard office setting working at a desk or table on a level surface. Some travel is expected to attend local, regional, and or national events. May be required to work more hours than normal during a regular workweek depending on workload and deadline requirements. This position is fully remote.

This position is eligible for full-time telework. Candidates must be located in the continental United States (Lower 48), and may be subject to a local cost of labor adjustment that impacts the hiring salary.

In support of our mission, the EFC seeks to hire a graduate research assistant to assist the EFC team on
several data projects, including developing tools that can allow water and wastewater utilities to provide
affordable services and make the necessary improvements needed so that clean water can be
distributed throughout their communities. The student will also be expected to conduct applied
research on EFC projections relating to affordability, regionalization, integrated planning of wastewater
and stormwater management, and environmental justice in environmental finance.

calculations in Tableau
• Independent research to support EFC projects under the guidance of EFC Project Directors
