This position is being re-advertised. Candidates who have previously submitted an application and were referred to the hiring manager are still being considered and do not need to reapply. 

This position would be a part of the Land Development Administration within the Planning and Development Department.

Incumbents provide advanced journey level professional planning work and are considered subject matter experts with the highest level of knowledge, providing consultation to other planning staff and to management. As assigned, incumbents may serve as lead workers, assigning work and monitoring work completion, and/or support staff, including coordinating training. This position will be a primary point of contact for those interested in performing development activity within the City of Raleigh.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • The primary purpose of the position is to administer Unified Development Ordinance regulations and oversee the proper and lawful recordation of final plat legal instruments to ensure orderly and accurate real estate property records are established and maintained for parcel recombination and subdivisions of land, dedications of public and private easements, and other real estate matters of public record within the City’s jurisdiction
  • Responsibilities also include the review of zoning and sign permits; and providing customer support and education to developers, builders, professional designers, and citizens to encourage development in accordance with City policies and ordinances
  • Facilitates communications and project work with internal and external stakeholders; coordinates and develops work plans; monitors project status; provides updates and recommendations to leadership.
  • Serves as a liaison and representative of assigned area and coordinates and supports partnerships with other departments, external organizations, and community groups
  • Provides planning and analytical support related to programs, projects, and planning function of area of assignment; assists in managing and coordinating project/programs work and support activities
  • Facilitates communications and project work with internal and external stakeholders; coordinates and develops work plans; monitors project status; provides updates and recommendations to leadership
  • Evaluates land development processes and permitting procedures; recommends improvements; facilitates and assists in implementing new processes and approved program changes. Assists with special project administration and coordination
  • Researches and gathers information related to planning efforts; prepares reports, maps, charts, data, presentations and/or other materials derived from research and analysis
  • Identifies, develops, implements, and maintains processes and practices that encourage, support and promote effective, comprehensive and meaningful citizen engagement

 

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in planning or public administration or field directly related to assignment and five years of related professional planning experience

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation

The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy seeks a junior planner to join the planning practice team. You will work with the Associate Director – Planning Practice and Scenario Planning, and with others, to conceptualize, conduct, learn from, and improve the activities that advance the Institute’s goals globally. What You’ll Do:

  • Co-manage aspects of the Consortium for Scenario Planning network including advisory board meetings, quarterly peer exchanges, newsletter content, and an annual request for project proposals.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of the annual Consortium for Scenario Planning Conference, partnering with program staff and the events team.
  • Support the Big City Planning Director network including helping to plan the annual convening of planning directors, in partnership with the American Planning Association and the Harvard University Graduate School of Design.
  • Contribute to the design and execution of projects that involve internal and external partners, independent and collaborative research, publications, webinars, conferences, and other means of engagement and communication.
  • Support other projects and initiatives as appropriate, including programming of Lincoln proposals for key conferences, and review of deliverables and publications from partners.
  • Work effectively on routine matters with Institute finance, operations, event, administrative, communications, and other staff.
  • Undertake special projects and other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need:

A bachelor’s degree in community planning, geography, public administration, or a related field; graduate degree in community, urban, or rural planning is preferred; entry-level position. Working knowledge of planning practices is required.

Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within six months. Ability to work some evenings and other times as necessary and requested and/or approved by the Senior Planner.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduation from and accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban And Regional Planning, Public Administration, Landscape Architecture, or a related field, and at least five (5) years of Planning and Code Enforcement experience, with at least three (3)
years of supervisory experience or Senior Level Planning experience in a municipal or county Planning Department preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. American Institute Of Certified Planners (AICP) and Master’s Degree preferred. A valid NC driver’s license is required. Starting salary DOQ with a full competitive benefits package.

Description

The Urbanism + Planning group of AECOM is actively seeking a creative and enthusiastic Urban Planner for employment in the Washington, DC office. The Urban planner will serve on multi-disciplinary planning efforts in the region’s most treasured places, from national parks to emerging neighborhoods. As part of a highly collaborative team of urban designers, planners, and landscape architects, the Urban Planner will develop planning documents and facilitate stakeholder engagement efforts to help municipal, federal, and private sector clients advance transformational projects in the region including monuments and memorials, civic buildings, trail systems, multimodal infrastructure, and mixed-use development.

This position is expected to begin Fall 2023.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Compile data and conduct research in support of planning initiatives.
  • Create innovative and informative graphics and maps.
  • Write, design, and format sections of planning reports and documents.
  • Produce material for project meetings and workshops.
  • Organize and participate in stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Communicate effectively with team and client stakeholders.
  • Ensure quality of work meets AECOM standards.
  • Manage time independently and effectively.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or related field + 2 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite required.
  • Experience with ArcGIS and data analysis required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Apt at developing high quality and creative graphics and document layouts.
  • Ability to manage discrete project tasks as required.
  • Understanding of NEPA and municipal planning processes, as well Washington, D.C. regional context.
  • AICP certification (or certification track) preferred.
  • Positive outlook and can-do attitude approach to tasks and teamwork.
  • Exceptional writing, research, analysis and communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to balance priorities.
  • Effective problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Efficient and organized worker with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in multi-disciplinary teams.
