Community Home Trust (CHT) seeks to strengthen the Orange County community with permanently affordable housing opportunities. Through its homeownership program, homes can accrue limited appreciation each year, preserving affordability for future generations while allowing current homeowners to build equity. While CHT retains title to each property, ownership is conveyed using a renewable 99-year ground lease. Community Home Trust sold its first home in June 2000. The incomes of most CHT homeowners ranges from 65% to 115% of AMI.

The Town of Matthews has an exciting job opportunity available for a Senior Planner. Located in Mecklenburg County, Matthews is a growing Town of 32,000 located about 10 miles southeast of downtown Charlotte. The Senior Planner will be responsible for numerous planning activities in the department including management of the rezoning process, site plan review, long range planning, presentations to boards and committees and work on special projects as needed. Among the many planning related projects the Town is currently working on are an entertainment district adjacent to a regional sports complex, a downtown mobility study and station area planning for the proposed Silver Line light rail project.

The ideal candidate will possess more than five years of experience in the planning field and AICP certification. The hiring rate is negotiable up to $66,625 depending on experience. Successful candidates for this position should have strong experience in physical land use planning. We are looking for someone who also has experience in GIS to complement our team. A background in urban design, architecture, or landscape architecture, is also preferred, but not required.

The Triangle Clean Cities Coalition, housed at Triangle J Council of Governments, and works collaboratively with regional stakeholders to increase the adoption of alternative fuels and reduce our dependence on petroleum products. The Planner oversees the operations and activities of the Planning division within the Community Development Department, supervises staff, and implements plans, policies, and developmental measures in order to assure orderly growth and development of current and long-range plans for the Town.

The Mid-Carolina Council of Governments (MCCOG) is seeking a seasoned professional to lead the regional agency serving Cumberland, Harnett and Sampson Counties as well as the twenty-one cities and towns in those counties. This vibrant region is home to well over 500,000 people. The Council of Governments offices are located in Downtown Fayetteville, NC. The MCCOG houses the Area Agency on Aging and the Rural Planning Organization in addition to the other planning services provided.

The Executive Director serves as the leader and manager for organization. The Director has responsibility for staffing decisions, budget development and execution and managing the operations. The position is appointed by the Board of Directors which will annually set goals which will be the basis for the Director’s evaluation. He or she will direct the development of staff recommendations for consideration of the Board. The new Director will be expected to aggressively work to expand the services provided and seek additional funding to support service delivery.

The Regional Council is looking for a candidate with outstanding leadership, management, analytical and communication skills. A master’s degree in Planning, Public Administration or a related field is preferred with at least five years of management experience. Three additional years of management experience with a bachelor’s degree can substitute for a master’s degree. Professional planning recognition through the American Institute of Certified Planners is desirable but not required.

The candidate must be able to show previous positive leadership experience in a role of significant responsibility as well as skill as a manager of professional employees. He or she also needs to demonstrate excellent written and oral communication ability, including skill in presenting to large and small groups. Further, the ability to analyze complex situations and develop thoughtful and appropriate recommendations is a must. Eastern Carolina Council of Governments (ECC) is seeking three AmeriCorps VISTA members to address unmet needs in communities we serve, including 9 counties and 62 incorporated municipalities. For over fifty years, ECC has been a unifying entity within Eastern NC to enhance the region’s quality of life. We provide human, planning, and economic development services to local governments and area residents by leveraging resources and collaborating regionally. Assisting our member governments with community and transportation planning, disaster recovery, economic development, human services, and grants is how we put our mission into practice.

ECC’s office is in the heart of downtown New Bern, NC. Settled in 1710, New Bern is North Carolina’s second-oldest colonial town and is filled with historic southern charm. Centrally located along North Carolina’s coast at the union of the Trent and Neuse Rivers, this scenic riverfront city offers a lively downtown, entertainment, arts, shopping, and dining. Situated less than an hour from the state’s Crystal Coast beaches and the Croatan National Forest, New Bern and the surrounding area also provides plenty of recreation opportunities.

ECC is seeking three VISTA members to build the capacity of each focus area within the planning department: economic development, transportation planning, and community development/disaster recovery. Our Economic Development VISTA will help to find, secure, and prepare reports for grants that enhance economic stability in the region and assist with the implementation of ECC’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). The Transportation Planning VISTA will conduct data and GIS analyses to support primarily non-highway transportation projects that provide better access and connectivity to goods and services and increase the likelihood of projects being funded. Lastly, our Disaster Recovery VISTA will aid in the implementation of our EDA-Disaster Recovery Planning Grant by working directly with Hurricane Florence-impacted communities to find creative solutions and mitigate future impacts. As part of our team, you will work collaboratively two other VISTA members and four full-time planning staff to promote vibrant and resilient communities across Eastern NC.
